As a ballpark number, how many members or posts does a forum have to have before submitting it to dmoz?
The general rule of thumb I use is that it needs to have been through 2 Google PageRank updates - that's just my preference to check the domain is going to hold it's rank. The length of time the submission/approval process takes it'll probably have been through 2 more PR updates before it appears in DMOZ (if it does).
Id just submit and then forget about it to be honest. Once you do submit then I have been told it's best not to submit again because you drop to the bottom of the queue.
You got to be af least better than average in the category what you are applying to. Lest otherwise adding your forum reduces the average quality of the category. Remember, DMOZ is looking to add value, not sites, to a category. Sites is just one way of doing that. Fact is, probably, the guidelines for the category's quality is probably gone up since some of the existings were listed, so you need to be a lot better than average to justify an editor donating their time to reviewing your site. If you submit too soon and get rejected, that fact remains on file about you for all time. Editors may be less likely to donate more time checking out a previous guidelines retard, so think twice about premature suggestions.
While I was editor I've listed few forums and several subforums, even cooled some of them but only because they had over 10,000 posts on single topic.
Would that apply to a "forums" category, as I'd assume that getting listed in the most appropriate place would be a bit easier then that... Besides, there are many many many many yahoo groups listed with less content then many forums I've been too. Which is rather discouraging to someone with content you don't need to log in to see. Blah, I plan on re-trying in 2 weeks (as that'll be my 6 month mark, it'll also be my 1 month mark with my editor application). Q
No idea, these forums were never submitted but as with most of my edits added by me. Basically such decisions is left to individual editor who has to figure out if forum has sufficient unique content, of course senior editors doesn't have to agree with him and can remove it.
Humm...... I am trying to get listed in DMOZ and have even resubmitted my forum which is PR 4 with some posts on the subject of my forum. Lets see I am hoping to get listed in the DMOZ this time
my general rule is to pick 2,500 from my money trees in my backyard everyday, and then see if they grow back 2 days later.
