I brought a .co.uk domain name back in 2004. I used it for a while, but proved to be a waste of time so I listed it on Sedo. Bearing in mind every time I received a letter from Nominet, I updated my details accordingly. Then to my horror, I find I no longer have control over it, the Agent is no longer one that I use and the domain is pointing to a site for a business not far from me. I have contacted my Agent, they seem to be clueless. I contacted Nominet, No Reply I contacted Sedo, Clueless I contacted other agent, No Reply. I check on whois.co.uk, Registrant is still me. But agent has changed and the DNS, they appear to be a partner of Nominet. Anyone have any ideas of my next step?? Cheers
Beats me, From speaking to the owner of the webspace the seemed arrogant and cocky. I wouldn't be surpirsed if the had phoned around pretending to be me!!! I did however receive a few e-mails asking for my authorisation of a switch, I chose to ignore them, thinking they were spam.
A registrar (tag holder) for a UK domain can push the registration of the domain to another registrar. Whether it's a breach of the Nominet TOS to do so without the registrant's permission I'm not certain, but I don't think it's something that happens particularly often. If you can't get in touch with the new registrar, you can move your domain to the registrar of your choice directly with Nominet at http://www.nominet.org.uk/registrants/maintain/changeregistrar/ (costs £10 plus VAT). You'll need to know your chosen registrars tag, which will be a short piece of alphanumerical text (a bit like a username, mine is STARSOL for example), which if I remember correctly you input in the form.
I believe that that in this case, silence in not golden but silence means consent. Usually when they contact you for the switch, you take action if you disagree with the transfer. Sorry to see your loss.
It's not so much a complete loss. I am still the legal registrant. My Name, address and phone number confirm this. I just cant seem to gain control of it again, the only way would be to pay £10, but why should I pay for something I did not change. As far as not replying to their change is concerned, it contradicts the renewals e-mails I get, where it states that I do not need to reply for things to stay as they are.... I did have a phone call from some kind of agent but it sounded like it was an Indian call center. I hung up after numerous lingual barriers, I have had my conversations manipulated in they past through wrong answers to questions I misunderstood!!!
