    Hi Guys,

I think my website could do with a bit of a facelift. ive decided not to opt for total re-design, but to simply update a little bit. what i want to know is by changing the sites design, will this have a negative effect on my search engine rankings?

My current site: www.swiftmediauk.co.uk, and the new site will be http://swiftmed.swiftmediauk.co.uk/about-us.php (currently on a test subdomain).

if anybody could advise me on this id appreciate it.

As long as the content is essentially the same, there will be no effect. However, there could be a positive effect, if you change your nav links to text, and stylize them into graphics with CSS

If u change the design of your site it will not effect on ranking but u should take care that size of the page must not increase. if u want to keep ranking than try to reduce the size of template.
i have totally change the design of my site and reduce the size of template and as a result my ranking increase as well as conversions also increases.

dont worry go ahead with new design.if design will be attractive than you will get more profit.

    al the best

go ahead with the new design, it won't be any negative effect. if you want better ranking too in SERPs, change the text from time to time a little bit.

Actually to be totally honest, there is othing wrong with freshening up a site now and then and actually if handled correctly could do some good

That’s right updating a site with new design won’t hurt your SE rankings until and unless your keywords are changed which would affect the SEO process.

I haven't found that size of the page makes that huge of a difference. I've played with different sized pages and found no ill effects until you get to something that is totally unmanageable. From everything I have seen, size of the actual page has very little impact if any in SERPS.

The changes you are making shouldn't have any effect no ... but yes you might want to think about SEO'ing the site while you do that ... as already pointed out your main navigation is all images which is not particularly healthy.

Yes, i agree with the others. The design should not make any significant impact on your site in terms of SEO :)

No, as long as the content is the same, there is no problem with that. :)

I changed a design for one of my sites to one of my 100% seo css layouts, my ranking in yahoo went for 75 to 29 in the next week, and I didnt acquire any links before that period of time either.

    As long as

-amount of links are the same as well as where the links point to

-images still have teh same alt tags

-content is the same and in the same order

-header, h1 tags, meta decription stay the same

you will be ok, change any of that stuff and there will be a short drop then your page will find a new position

coool guys. thanks for everybodys input on this. i was worried that if i go ahead and change my sites design my page 1 ranking would drop, so hopefully it wont. ill post the results in a couple of weeks time as to the change in my position in the SERPS after ive updated my design.
