Do Backlinks Stay after Link is Removed?

If I have my site in my sig on a site and it gets index with it say 100 times. What happens next month when I remove it. Will I lose all the backlinks? Or will it only happen if that thread is read and updated?

If the link isn't there anymore its not counted as a link.

What about on webforums? I just did a backlink checker and I see TONES of them from what I had there about a month ago.

Except in his example, Google hasn't gone back and indexed it so it still thinks it is there.

The only hole in that situation is that if Google is only visiting a page once a month, that pgae isn't really important and therefore isn't delivering much juice in the first place

They might stay in the index for a while, but eventually it will get removed.

Like others have said it counts until the Googlebot visits again.

it will stay until next page crawl . when google crawl the page that you have link , it will see that there is no link to your page.

So if advertising via text-link-ads, you should keep paying your campaigns monthly??

That's basically what I was trying to find out. I checked alot of backlinks today and some domains I took off a sig still had links. As ysf1?(sp) said if it is still there it means that it wasen't crawled and therfor gave you little juice to beginw ith. Mong who is a user here made www.backlinkwatch.com which is awesome. You can see which sitewide links are actually worth paying for.

I think you have to keep paying them but pay attention as I bought a bunch but only a few are true keepers.

If you removed your sig before google update I think those links that you've removed will not be counted on your backlinks anymore.

Links that has been removed will still be shown as your BLs until that page has been crawled and seen that your link wasn't there anymore...that will be the time that your link popularity for that site will be lessen...

The timing of an update has nothing to do with it

When the page is crawled, if your link is not there it will be removed. Some pages get crawled 2 times a day, some once a month. Not linked to update!

Don't thank me, thank Mong. He's the guy who made it it's awesome.

I"ve come to the conclusion buy a bunch of sitewides for a month and see which ones give you juice.

Is it fair to assume: whenever someone opens a page w/ your link on it it gets cached? Then crawled?

Some sitewides I bought get no traffic I guess as I only got a few backlinks; others I got hundreds. Same price!
