Well heres my tip for today.

If your doing SEO work to your site be patient when waiting for results.

For one of my sites, i researched the keywords i was going to target, applied the appropriate amount of SEO and waited. the first couple of months i averaged about 150 visitors a day and now 3/4 months on im averaging 350 visitors a day (2000 referrals from Google so far this month) and its increasing daily.

So basicly apply SEO and wait for the results.

also i should probably add this:

just cos you dont see immediate improvement, it does not mean that you should apply more on-page seo. allow a month or two to pass with the current seo work, continue to build links and if after a couple of months you still are not seeing any improvements then be a little more aggresive for the next couple etc etc

Most of seo is all about trial and error, one site will rank with 10% seo work, another might take 90% seo work, 1 site might take 50 links with keywords in anchor to rank, another might take 1000's. The point being, the more you try new things, the more you record what happens if you do this or that, and the better you research your keywords and competition the better chance you have of getting ranked.

keyword research IMO is the most important SEO factor, especially for new sites, you could pay an SEO $1000 to do SEO work to your site (on-page, link-building etc), but if your targetting stupid, useless keywords then you have just wasted $1000, where as you can use free tools to reasearch keywords etc, apply basic on-page seo and be ranked within a month. (and have a $1000 advertising budget ;))

nope, i applied on-page SEO that included my main 3 keywords, submitted to web directories, did a few link exchanges and also emaied similar sites asking them to link to me.

only money i spent was for featured links in some directories.

i used to when i first started seo, but once you know the basics, and learn how to research keywords, the rest is basicly trial and error.

the search volume of single keywords is not high, around 1-2000 searches a month, but since they are easy to rank for and have many variations (e.g. blue apples, free blue apples, buy blue apples, etc) each getting a couple of thousand searches a month it soons adds up :)

    just thought i would update.

traffic is still continuing to increase. For the last 10 days i have been hitting 450 - 500 visitors a day, total unique so far this month has passed 6000 (i have doubled my stats for January). also a total of over 4000 referrals from google :)

my main 2 keywords count for around 20% of search engine traffic (the other 80% come from variations of the main keywords). (like i have said in different threads, picking the right keywords is important ;))

also my average visitor staying time has increased by over 120 seconds, so on average each visitor is now staying an extra 2 minutes at my site per visit.
