Automatic Deleations of BST threads

    Hi everyone

Well it has started to become appart, than on a daily basis, threads than are hundreds of days old are being bumped via people probably using the search feature wanting to buy or sell goods. This is starting to mess up the BST as some people do not notice the age of the thread, and another 10 replies happens within the next hour.

Personally I believe threads within the BST trade section should be deleted after a certain amount of days, which would be a big improvement.

Would appriciate some opinions on this

    Cheers
    Ash

I think expired offers should be deleted, that is a good idea because I'd like to see more "fresh" and new offers in the BST section. It'll make the BST section much less cluttered as well :D

Maybe deleting offers with no responses for XX amount of days?

I would agree with that. In terms of BST if I deal has been done, what's the point of keeping it there. And if no one is interested (has happened to me) then there is no pt in keeping it there either.

The only reason it could be useful is in disputes over something Bought, Sold, or Traded.

That's a good point you've raised there. Maybe a seperate section for completed deals ;) (never going to happen:rolleyes: )

Threads with no responses should be deleted IMO (no problem with the disputes b/w buyer/seller since there are none!)

It makes sense that a BST item should be deleted after 30 days. I mean if you have not bought it or sold it in 30 days it should be removed anyway. ;)

One reason not to delete threads in buy, sell, or trade or any area is that it deletes invaluable history. We close buy sell and trade threads with original poster requests their closure.

OP is ethically responsible for requesting the thread to be closed once it's over.

A pop up alert that displays onClick "Post Reply" for BST threads that are 3 months or older makes sense. Automatic deletion doesn't need to happen IMHO.

I say all threads with no replies in the past should be deleted from there. Also, any thread over 120 days old with less than 20 replies. :)

Fair point, but could you imagine just 5% of users requesting their threads to be closed, there would be quite an amount to do per day.

What about an automatic closure, as this would serve as a record, but not allowed be to bump them, and if the user was still interested after x amount of days, they could just pm the owener & would stop all the bumping in the section.

nah .. I dont think the threads should be deleted . However , if the offer is over then these should be closed and for this you need to use the red triangle .
Deleting the thread isnt the best option .

I am also against deleting the threads. It will be nice to visit your thread after a long time. More than that, it will be useful for people trying to find the sale history of a site they are going to buy. Closing a thread seems more sensible.
