It seems that some of the most popular threads here on DP are those that document an experiment of sorts and that got me thinking about the power of thought-provoking content. So ironically I thought i would start my own experiment to see just how far you can go with content alone. Therefore I set up a free blog with blogger.com and will try and write some really powerful posts. The only form of marketing I will use is that of blog-and-ping, just to see if this still holds any value at all. I will not reveal the URL of my blog on here to keep the experiment valid (otherwise i would already have a backlink to the blog). What do you think my chances are? How far do you think you can go with no marketing as such? What factors will play a role in my success/failure?
I think you have a chance. You aren't going to digg, del.icio.us or anything? That's great. It will be very interesting to see what happens with this. I'm sure you will get picked up by blog searches, like technorati.com Be sure to post the results, and could you PM me the link to the site so I could read your posts? Or would that be experimental error... Good luck!
If you won't have any links pointing to the blog, how will anyone possibly find the site? Won't it just be like an island?
Well at first I wont have any links at all but like some others have said if my pinging gets me into technorati or other blog sites then I will be building links "naturally" using the power of my content. For all those who want the URL, i would like to get this experiment going properly at first so I want all my visitors to find my site through their own means. I will reveal all eventually after I have some meaningful results and of course I will post here almost as regularly as I post on my blog just to keep you all informed.
Well I received my first 2 visitors after my second post. Both were from technorati. It's a start I guess, hopefully as the posts progress so will the visitors and the links. I haven't really started the really good content yet, more trying to give people some background into the blog subject and why I am writing it. I'll update in a couple of days unless anything particularly exciting happens before then.
Have just written post number 5 (i hoped to have more written by now but do to unforseen circumstances I have'nt been able to) but still only 2 visitors so far. Hopefully my latest post will get some interest.
Pedigreechump6, Offsite content would be more effective. Submitting to article directories, for example. Are you just trying to measure what blog and ping will do on its own? If so, nevermind but try this whenever you are ready... write two articles about your blog's subject and ad a bio box about you and your blog. submit one to ezinearticles and the other to goarticles. Take those same articles and break it down into a few seperate blog posts, but make sure to reword it entirely. Ping those of course. That should give you a boost
