Hi, I heard that dMoz is running out of good editors and even though Google uses it to get PR stuff but still it it is slowly dieing to t o extremely slow turnover and stuff. Is this true??
I guess it depends on the view you take. Some people believe it is dying, some don't. As a editor that knows what is going on internally, I'm saying no dmoz is not dying. Now if you are talking about how much dmoz can help in your seo efforts, then in that aspect several webmasters here will say yes it is dying. You make the choice of what to believe depending on your view of things.
I think it's too soon after the "crash" to fully know if DMOZ is on it's last leg...from the complaints I've seen I'd assume that before the crash it was certainly going down hill. I think that maybe with all the publicity it got over the last 5 months, it may actually prove to be the best thing that's happened to the place in years. At least one can hope Q
Does it matter either way? DMOZ was structurally dead for months. Now it's back and people are seeing good things. If it wasn't for DMOZ and Google Pagerank (among the shortlist of things), webmasters would have nothing to complain about.
You'd need to define extremely slow. DMOZ had some bad months with the server crash. But they look back on line to add around 20,000 new entries a month. If 20,000 new entries a month is dying, then how close to dead is DigitalPoint or Yahoo?
The only possible answers to a question such as that are: Yes No Dunno Do know but won't say Need clarification before I can respond If you were ruling out any of those as possible responses, it would have been simpler all round to do so in the initial posting.
Um, I see a search box there but I don't see a directory. Based on what I can see of the replacement directory I don't see it happening in our lifetimes, do you? You should start a poll, what is more desirable, a listing in dmoz or bigoole?
I don't know about it dying but it definetly sucks, I don't know what their problem is with me, I've submitted over 40 sites over the last 8 months and not one has been added, I followed the submission rules and they all met their requirements, other companies do get their sites added, I just think they have some sort of problem with me or with SEO's in general, I get the feeling I would have been better lying and not using my company email!
Looks like it. As long as dmoz is important enough to attract weekly "dmoz sucks" threads it's still important enough to be on people's minds. I'll start to worry when no one cares enough to debate it.
