Serious directory owners usually try their best to make their directories useful resources, and it’s always a good thing to get some authoritative sites listed in your directory to make it more established.I found a list of many high PageRank sites today, almost all of them are popular and well-known sites.
If you are a serious directory owner, add them or some of them to your directory right away!

Very nice list. I also agree that directories should have more high pr sites listed, mainly in the top level of the categories, it looks better for some submitters, people always like to have their site listed among the top dawgs out there, so this is a great move for those who add a few to their directory.

Apart from the possible psychological effect, what would be an actual benefit, I guess I'm talking about from SEO perspectives?

Someone at the SEO forum did the experiment, concluded that no visible affect or benefit by simply linking to seemingly authoritive sites (I think he even linked to a site with his niche with high PR)

I know this SEO factor has been discussed or rumored for some time, but anyone seriously expect any SEO benefit? I would like to hear if any directory owner did this for any SEO purpose.

There is no SEO value, my point is that having high pr sites listed in the top level categories of your directory can attrack more submissions. Some companies perfer to be listed among other high quality websites in their market and do not mind paying for a listing. Works great for me :).

well... you could always use Google's Directory - which is auto-sorted by pagerank Desc. I made a scraper app, that pulls the highest PR ranked sites, and submits them to my site... thats how I "begin" a directory, by using the highest pr links in each directory :)
