hi i would like to know what is the best name format for google seo with domain names. i.e. i bought sexual-health-advice.org and sexual-health-advice.com today but sexualhealthadvice.org and sexualhealthadvice.com were already taken what format is better? are there any advantages or disadvantages in either format? is the .org better than the .com? thanx in advance sammie x
I'd go with a .com instead of a .org But I don't like dashes in domain names too much HEALTHYSEXADVICE.COM is available
It really depends what you are trying to do... Say for instance if you are targeting UK visitors then got for a .co.uk or .ca for canada and a .us for USA as they will do better in thier respective countries as compared to international tld's If you are new to the back end of search engines (doesnt look like you are by the number of posts you have) I have a good advice for you.. Run your main website on a .com keep the .org as a blog and develope that too and link to main site. Buy a few main country tld's and link to main site which will help you do well for your targeted keywords. This is if you have a small budget but if you looking at investing a few grands on link building then dont bother with buying supporting domains just go with the .com More then 1 hyphen is believed to be looked upon as spammy by search engines namely google and msn (yahoo is not bothered with hyphens in your domain name). I would suggest you choose a smaller domain name without the hyphens if possible.. Try .us and .co.uk they do equally well internationally with a little bit of drawback. A .co.uk will be a good option if you targetting both uk and usa as .co.uk will fare well in uk and (assuming your hosting will be in USA) due to your ip it will do well in USA. In my experience domains with one hyphen do equally well as compared to the one without the hyphen but I have had bad experiences with 2 hyphens (It might have just been my luck though)
Google can pick apart words, so the hyphen doesn't make much of a difference. And .com is always better than any other TLD, not for SEO but because people are familiar with something.com more than something.org .
I think Shawn needs to make that SEARCH button a little bit bigger..it seems people can't find it anymore...
thanx guy, i read somewhere that on a .org site ads are worth more because it has a better standing with .org like a more trusted site that .com, is that true?
that would be fine if it told me what i needed to know, but as times change so does the web, and i am a firm believer in not using the search, why? because you get fresh info, and the forum is already full of every question anyone can possably ask, so there is no need for anyone to join or post, as we can all just look for what we want to know, so no need for any new posts, or member for that matter huh? or was you just bumping your post count?
yes...yes yes yes, of course.. I was just "bumping" my post count cause that's the ONLY reason I'm on the forum. I'm not actually here to provide useful information or be friendly at all...I'm only here to mislead people... *sigh* that's not a very warm way to say "thank you for helping" heh
i always prefer a .com domain with short length . i dont prefer dashes in my domain . people will not remember domains with dashes
No, search engine treats all domain extension equally. You may refer to the sticky post written by me at the top of this forum for more details on this. Back to your question and in terms of SEO, your domain names are fine It is the quality of the inbound links that counts and the weight of keyword domain in Google is very small as compared to a strong link.
i think .com is better than any other TLD, cause if you search any keyword maybe 9 out of 10 of the first page results form google will be like a .com TLD... but i think the bottom line is still SEO in making any site best for google...
