I believe google is slipping away in the market because the think they don't have competition. Eventhough I hate microsoft, I would like them to gain more reputaion in the search engine market.

Are you serious? Google is improving more and more, rather than slipping away. If anything, MSN is slipping, their best new offer being a Live Mail service which doesnt even accept webmails from Gmail, pissing people off, and causing them to switch to more reliable webmail providers.

They might. Google is growing as a corporation and they aren't working on any public changes to their search division. One because they don't need to, second is because it is clearly the best. So they are looking on YouTube.

However MSN does have Microsoft behind them which means ever growing resources, people and technologies. Also the thing that makes it easy for MSN is that if they wipe out Google in there search department they will be cleaning up the company since Google relies on it's search for everything it does.

Microsoft is ruthless. Thats a given. This means that if it was so easy to wipe out Google, they would have done it by now.

I agree with humanedited. Live search results are more relevant thanh Google - Google just churns out crap mostly. Also I think Live's local search is much better than G. The only reason I use to use G is it was way faster to load the MSN but now it's equal.

That's because everyone is trying to spam Google. No one cares about exploiting MSN. Google has done an amazing job and done a LOT for the field of AI with all their studies. Sifting through billions of web pages within a few milliseconds (and finding synonyms... AND sifting out spam...) is not an easy job - but they've managed to do it for the most part.

The other thing that Google has going - ads. If the search results aren't relevant, ads almost always are.

I don't think MSN compares to Google. Google is the internet and soon enough, Bill Gates will surrender. ;)

I agree that the MSN Live search results appear to have more relevance these days than Google. Google will most likely always be the king but when I really need to find something I find it much faster because MSN doesn't place as much weight on the .gov and .edu sites that seem to permiate the top results spots so much with Google.

the current share of google in search engine industry

google's share is 54% as compare to microsoft's 26% followed by the 10% of yahoo

and after the take over of youtube turnover it has a competitive edge.

i dont think miscrosoft will be able to be a threat in near future not even with its live search engine option

    thats what i think

Were did you get your numbers? I'm pretty sure that MSN has around 5% of the market and yahoo has around 15-25%.. MSN's traffic level is on par with AOL's..

I doubt any will surrender to the other. They've been able to coexist in peace thus far, and Im pretty sure they'll be content raking in their independant profits.

I get more visitors through Google than Msn ...but Msn also gives good traffic to my site ...as they both are on competition to bring traffic to my site...lol

I receive the maximum visitors through Google and Msn and the rest from other Se's..

    Google is simply the "BEST"

I think as long as google satisfies and continues to satisfy, maps, news, results, directions, all these addons then they will remain on top. But msn could market like Apple and make it trendy to use live because EVERYONE is using google.
