I don't know much about the case but I absolutely HATE government involvement in business. They're already going way downhill, anyway, so any government action doesn't matter. They screwed themselves over and the market will take care of it. godaddy.com: special offer for registerfly customers
Prett interesting to read good ol' mr parsons blog and watch this http://www.brightcove.com/title.jsp?title=512723016 Also http://www.bobparsons.com/RegisterflyScandal.html
who is that kevin? why he has such a bad name? I have tried to initiate a transfer but it takes more than 1 week already and my site is still in the initiate transfering mode.
We will see This court thing went quickly and the board that threw that guy Medina said it is all over. Now I wonder ... they were kind of threatening with FBI and everything and now they just said well it is over we will not fight anymore. For such a scandal, court was pretty quick... It makes me think that maybe they are not such good guys afterall. Anyway regfly will be either sold or will continue their business and slowly everything will come to normal. Our untransferred domains will be just fine ... They still owe me a dollar and couple of cents
This whole mess is because of a lover's squabble. (see www.registerflies.com). Kevin owned Registerfly and gave his lover John a cushy job. In February 2007 John had 0% ownership but made an agreement to pay Kevin $500,000 to get 50% ownership. John didn't pay but instead used legal maneuvers to get Kevin fired. The judge has now given control back to Kevin - the rightful owner. Still, both have been screw ups for the past year leading to over 70,000 customer domains being lost.
Nice summary. The court papers reveal an entirely different picture to that which we had been led to believe! Available here
This is why i will only register domain names on top domain registers. i have no past knowledge of registerfly but i have heard of it. Ill never put important domain names in the hands of second hand companys.
A few minutes ago I got into my Registerfly's control panel and I found something new. One of my domains can't be updated because it returns as error message "domain not found". This is not new because it has been showing off that message since past January, however now is time to change nameservers and I can't, hence I tried to transfer it and after swithching to my whois information the domain is showing Kevin Medina's contact details in Miami but not authorization code Even now, such domain is running on my server with my own settings, but the whois says that.
