Is there any way to block visitors from certain countries?

I would like to block visitors from other countries from visiting my directory.

For example: I only want visitors from USA and other people from other countries will not be able to access my website.

Is there anyway to do this? What about certain visitors?

Have you tried blocking by IP? May be tedious, and there's always proxies.

Their are mappings of IP's to locations on the map. If you can get ahold of one of these db sources, then you find exactly where they are from... As CReed said though - proxies will Always be there so it will never be 100% correct.

You would have to block outside or only allow US, you would also have to block all US proxies. The problem there is that most of the guys change their IPs on a regular basis to avoid ISP blocks.

Now on my totally personal opinion I would suggest stopping doing whatever it is that your site is doing to upset the visitors from outside USA, so that they will stop hacking/spamming/bombing/stealing.

    Thanks for your help!

I will see what I can do. My website is for people in the USA and I don't provide nothing of value to other countries. But I have noticed that certain visitors from specific country spend hours searching my directory that is why I want to find a way to block my website from them. I want to keep this directory very specific to the usa only.

mywebsearches: it might not give any specific value to non-us viewers, but why block them? what happens if they tell a friend, who tells a friend, and the entire Ireland decides to go to your URL - and 10% of them click on your advertising? I would NEVER block someone from your site unless you see they are being malicious in some manner

How sure are you that they aren't from the US? They could be US users using proxies, for instance.

Alternatively, you could sniff their IP location, and use that to display a relevant affiliate ad, directing them to a more appropriate directory.

Hi all, I'm not working with .php but would like to just block my online internet player from non-US visitors.
So when the click on the link to my player they get an error page or are forwarded to another page of mine.
    thanks for any help!

    Hello,

The most efficient and easy way is to block, or allow users from a certain country to visit your website is with the help of a so called .htaccess file on your server. In this .htaccess file you write which ip addresses should not have access and which ip addresses should have access.

The website located on blockacountry.com gives a service where you can easily click on the countries you wish to block. Following blockacountry.com generates you a .htaccess document which you can upload to your server and there you go. As easy as 1,2,3.

    sir,
some visitors are just spending time on surfing on my site.

is there any process to redirect the visitors from specific city to the desired location, so that the unnecessary visits can be restricted.

    awaiting for fruitful reply.

    thanks,

Really! Well that's terrible, you go to all the trouble of creating a Website and people have the audacity to use it

I have a crystal ball plugged in to my usb port and when I see confused visitors on my site I send friendly spirits to help them find the way to their true destination.

    Hello...

I had DP member "silkysmooth" block 5 main spammers that where constantly attacking our network
directories from Russia, Romania, Turkey, China, Germany and today i haven't had 1 submission
thats spam from them so it was well worth the effort. While im saddened that i had to go that route
i never had a pay review from any of those countries so i see no lose and only gain peace of mind.

DP member "anon" also has a mod he created that will block certain garbage submissions from directories
if you dont want to block entire countries.
