Dipping toe into ebook pond...could use a few pointers to get me started

I am grateful for the insights offered on this board for people getting started in internet marketting and such. I was reading a thread on Marketting ebooks and came up with these questions:

    1) I could really use some tips on how to choose a topic for an ebook. I know that books on "how to make money" are hot, but that kind of thing is not my forte'. I have some topics I am passionate about, but that does not mean that people care to read about them in an ebook format. I am wondering if anyone has any tips regarding ways to sort of test the waters to see what is in demand (I don't want to spend lots of time creating an ebook that nobody wants!). I am thinking about ebooks that are not "how to make money" so I am trying to figure out whether or not there is a market.

    2) How long or short should an ebook be (in general)? I find myself trying to think about how long a customer is willing to read at their computer, or else print an ebook (though I would think this would happen less often), and I do not have a feel for a "reasonable" ebook length. I imagine it depends on the audience, and hence the topic, but any guidelines would be appreciated.

    3) Ad copy for landing page - I read lots of comments on the importance of this. I have NO IDEA how to write landing page copy. Can someone please point me to a resource to begin learning?

Thank you in advance. This place is a wonderful resource.

Check The Overture Suggestion Tool & Wordtracker keyword results. Check out the search volumes for various niches to get an idea of demand and what people are searching for.

I had a 5% refund rate with a 30 page e-book on Clickbank, which it fairly low. I would say 30-60 pages, quite large text.

Search Michael Fortin in Google and Copywriters Board.

    Some things to think about:

    - Will the buyer have spare money to buy your product
    - How desperate is the buyer for your product/solution/information
    - Creating a higher value + perceived value than the purchase price
    - Out-sourcing writing work on topics that may be profitable but don't interest you to writers on elance.com for $700-$1,000.
    - Investing in a professional copywriter for your sales/landing page ($2,000-$7,000).

Keywords from Wordtracker should give you lots of ideas for e-books to create.

    Regards,

    Pete

You should use clickbank, theres a link in the rich jerk site in my signature, here you will find ebooks that are selling well in each niche, look for the gravity rating, the higher the better.

Clickbank is also a great resource to market your book and get people to promote it for you.
