I wonder why California being such a big state hasn't been divided in two and why tiny states like Rhode Island continue to exist. Can you explain why W.Virginia which was only separated out because of the civil war didn't rejoin with Virgina proper? Surely having such large states - Like California and should small states like Rhode Island doesn't make sense. Your thoughts?
I think if you want to know why you have to check the history of the USA,additionally some madmen are going to add Taiwan as a state of the USA.
After most Eastern states were established, the Homestead act was passed, which is why many Western states are large and square (most Eastern states have rivers as borders). I believe California is the way it is because it was settled and became a territory with those boundaries before the Homestead act was passed. I'm not sure on any of this, so you might want to do some research on your own accord.
But why have they not changed with the times. Surely Cal. is TOO big and Rhode Island too small to function effectively as states? You could still keep 50 states so you don't have to change any flags but merge some small ones and split some large and bulky ones?
Why are cats and dogs enemies? Wouldn't it be easier for them to form an alliance, against the rodent nation is commonly hated? Sure would, but doubt its happening. Anyway, aren't there something about borderlines of the 50 states in the Constitution. Dont quote me on this, as I am Canadian.
I've read the constitution and part of it is how states can be divided, combined, etc - I'm just surprised no US politician has tried to make political gain out of it - particularly as I hear that North and South California seem aways to be banging heads.
