Can I just clear up a few thoughts that I have been wanting to spit out for a while.

I have run a successful writing company with a turnover in excess of 400K for 2 years now. When I started out I took on any writer from wherever and aimed at low low prices. Mistake number one was to think I could get the quality required by expecting to pay a couple of dollars for 500 word articles. I don't hide the fact that this is what I did and it proved disastrous. We lost almost every client we had mainly because we did not use English first language writers.

This is not a slant on offshore writers as I admire anyone that can speak or write in more than one language. I am English and live in France but I know my French can never ever be perfect.

Once I made the decision to hire only English mother tongue writers turned things around for my company. Even then I had to hire Editors to oversee the work. We get no work from our website in fact all of our work is referral. The point I make is that I have worked hard to hit a certain standard and I still have to compromise by not pricing my ourselves out of the market. I would dearly love to pay our writers a lot more than I do but I do believe that our rates are higher than most and writers get paid weekly.

We service major web clients whom return again and again because they trust our quality. I guess when you see ads of 500 words for a couple of dollars then that’s your choice but we are finding more and more that the search engines are getting extremely fussy and simply throwing a load of keywords down on an article is proving worthless.

I think the moral of my story is you get what you pay for.
