I just registered one. I'm going to take advantage of being allowed 2 registrations. Just going through my list of what I want.
This is my question about their statement: --------Your order will be process within 24 hours upon payment confirmation and you have full ownership and control for your domain. You may transfer the domain name to other registrar after 60 days from registration date. Next year’s renewal price is USD14.65/year or USD29.00/2 years----------- If I am free to transfer the domain name, in example to godaddy.com, and godaddy.com's next year's renewal price is $8.95, who is charging me the stated $14.65/year or $29.00/2 years? will I still be charged that price if I go elsewhere!? If I do get to renew with only godaddy.com's $8.95, basically I register 100 domains (2 allowed per person, so I register under 50 names of my friends) at exabytes.com, they are at loss i.e. 3 dollars per registered domain, and I transfer all my domians after 60 days initial period, I've left exabytes.com with $300 loss, does this have logic? where is the logic in $0.99.com domains?
I imagine they are hoping people stick with them and not transfer so they can make up the loss in the $14.65 renewal next year. I'm sure a lot of this is just has to do with getting their name known. Think how much traffic they must be getting because of this promotion. I've never heard of them before but I know their name now and even though I don't plan on renewing the domain with them, their business name is still planted in my head. So... it seems to be fairly effective marketing (in my case). I'm sure they took into account how much they stand to lose with people who plan on just transferring the domains after the 60 days and maybe it'll be more effective and cheaper than other marketing campaigns they have done.
It does have logic if they 'throw away' a few thousand dollars like that just for the marketing purpose, I register with them for $0.99, go elsewhere, leave them with $300 loss, 200 people like me do the same, $6000 loss equals the amount of marketing campaigne, plus some people will renew with them... just, someone rised a question: 'Isn't this what RegisterFly did and what caused all their problems?.
@humanedited - you said you registered domains with them, what's your feedback up to now? I just sent a question to their online support and for the past 20-30 minutes there is no answer, it's midnight CentralEuropeanTime and must be early hours Malasya, just it's written on their site 'live support - online'. Also, in 'News & Promotion' on their web-site the last info is dated June 27th 2005!?
I registered one today. It seemed to go through without any problems. I'm able to login to my account and manage domains/sites (pretty standard control panel). The whois is showing that enom is the registrar
Ah!, I posted about this offer a few days ago because I got a newsletter from exabytes, though its Malaysian branch hence domains are price 0.99 RM
