Hey guys what are your experiences with blogs and Adsense? I've just implemented Adsense in my blog (it's new, just came online yesterday), and it's a pretty high content blog (all things related to sci-fi), but I've noticed that every ads I get are blog-related. I don't want those, because I know no one will come to my blog to click on blog ads -- they want to click on movie/tv/sci-fi stuff. I've started blocking these blog URLs, but this seems pointless, because for every one I block, 5 more are waiting to take their place. Has anyone had any success in getting more content-relevant ads to show in blogs? I'm using Wordpress, by the way, if that makes a difference. Share your thoughts and experiences, please.
Can you post your URL? How long has your blog had ads on it? Maybe google have not indexed it yet? Make sure you don't have words like 'blog' or 'journal' anywhere on your site.
If your title says something like "sci-fi blog" or something like that you will get blog ads. Seen it happen many times.
As I said, remove all bloggy words.. if your site is called "sci-fi blog" and you want to keep it like that, make the title an image, and dont call the image "blog.jpg"
Dont worry. Too Cool. Your blog content is nothing to do with the ads. Google takes few hours to deliver content related ads, Till then it normally delivers blog related ads for all blogs. Withing a day or two, you shall see proper Sci-Fi related ads. It had happened with my blogs too.
Yea a URL would help us help you. But as Critters said nix the blog-ish words specially if it's in the title and H tags.
Well, heh, that is a problem. It is a Wordpress blog, and the word "blog" shows up routinely in the PHP lines. I'm going to give editing them out a shot, though...
I have a few Wordpress blogs as well and I have no problem with blog related ads. I'm not sure what you mean by "PHP lines". I mean I know you mean the code but that is easily changed.
if it has blog in the PHP code as variables and table names, this does not show on the HTML code the user will see as PHP is serverside.
one reason might be, the aren't ads related to your sci-fi information. I bet if you write a post about Star Wars, it would give you ads relating to Star Wars.
Here's an update for those who cares: Maverick was right; all I had to do was wait a few days (in this case, a day and a half) and relevant ads popped up like clockwork. Sweet.
Heh heh. I might have spoken too soon. Relevant ads show up in I.E., but I get blog ads again with Firefox. Weird.
Keep trying, and the traffic willl come, blog blog blog blog blog!!!! hours of work will pay off, just like somebody else said quits never win, and winners always win because they stay at it. Also submit to some directories, and more things to that nature to build serps
fryman is right, if you have the blog word on your title, then chances are you wil get blog related ads. also you can try to have titles optimized for the type of ads you would like to have , if you want sci-fi ads them concentrate on sci-fi optimized titles and provide lots of links in your post realted to sci-fi. this might help you a little bit at having the kind of ads you want to have in your blog. also you can try interlining or getting backlinks related to sci-fi throuhg blog commenting on other sci-fi related blogs. also you can try to have as your blog rolls some other sci-fi blogs that you love reading from, surely you read other sci-fi blogs right? also it is important to mention sci-fi words at the first paragraph of every post that you make and somewhere in the middle and also more on the end paragraps (this is called keyword density and placement) (sometimes called keyword stuffing). this helped me with the same problem that i had before as yours.
