I found this Pingdom company for checking web servers. They say they check the web server from different servers all around the world and give you statistics.

Anybody use them? Do you think this kind of services are useful? I think they are useful since you can detect whether to upgrade your server or not based on the load on your server.

Do you know any alternatives to Pingdom with similar services for website monitoring? (may be cheaper ones)

How about SEO monitoring. Why not monitor your SEO indications too (SERPs, pagerank, keyword density, # indexed pages, backlinks, main referring sites) all these things should be monitored too for successful website.
If you wanna give it a try, use my software - it is free.

No, Google analytics is for monitoring user behaviour which is very important to track of course. What my software monitors is SEO indications, like:
    • position in SERPs on Google and Yahoo.
    • keyword density.
    • Number of indexed pages in Google and Yahoo.
    • Number of referring sites.
    • Main backlink analysis.
    • PageRank.

I've been using host-tracker.com and I've been pretty happy with them.

Oh yeah, and if you want to monitor the site yourself with your own computer, a good program is called HealthMonitor, and it's a sourceforge project.
