Ive recently been reading on the creative commons site and i understand each license with regards to what content i can reuse where there are the relevant creative commons licenses displayed but the one im not 100% clear on is Attribution.

Under Attribution it states the following:
You let others copy, distribute, display, and perform your copyrighted work — and derivative works based upon it — but only if they give credit the way you request.

Does that mean that you would give credit on your site if the person has outlined the type of credit they require.
And if they have not outlined any type of credit you would just leave it at that and be ok to reuse the content?

No, even if there is no specific accreditation method stipulated you will still need to provide accreditation. In general that will consist of a link to the source site and the name of the creator.
