Yah, those double underscored links really make the site look rough. Maybe I will play with the link color to see what fits best for my site. I hope this revenue windfall isn't temporary.
Yeah I emailed them about the double underscore links and they told me that even though it is possible to remove them , they do not advise that since then the links are confused for regular links and the conversion rate for the advertisers is not as high... blah blah blah... so not sure how im gonna go about it...
Hi there - My name is Jack and I am an account manager here at Kontera. It is true, when we tested single underlined ContentLinks, site visitors were very vocal in disapproval. If you'll send us a URL of a page that you think looks poor, we'll test it to find a better format that is less intrusive. We're here to help! Jack Kontera Support
Thats awesome Jack. I am only in my first week with you guys, I am going to contact you shortly after I get more data as to how it affects my visitors and earnings.
Hi Jack, maybe we publishers can have a choice between single or double underscored links? I think site visitors have become more savvy about text links now that they are popping up everywhere.
I'm getting similar results on a similar niche. BTW, I don't think the double underline link looks bad at all.
I just filtered it out for the parts that I didnt like it in, hopefully it will keep up the good earnings.... Kontera is great so far
I do not know if anybody answer the question here yet with Adsense but i got an answer from them today and they said Secondly, you're welcome to use Kontera text link ads on the same site as AdSense, as long as they don't mimic the format of the site's Google ads. Sincerely, Scott The Google AdSense Team Now i will test it thanks
Thanks for the confirmation, now im safe , i dont think double underline words will mimic 300x250 blocks too much
I received my welcome e-mail this morning. I pasted the code into one test page to see how it would look. For those who are asking, the implementation manual says that you ads will go live after 12am PST. I found that I was displaying Kontera ads after 8 hours. I was under the impression that the default was 5 ads displayed on a page. I was wrong. Kontera recommends five ads per page. From Kontera's Publishers FAQs: Can I control the number of ContentLinkâ„¢ keywords on a web page? Yes, there are a number of parameters within the code that publishers control. These include changing the look-and-feel of the ContentLinksâ„¢, the ContentLinkâ„¢ tool tip, the ContentLinkâ„¢ results and controlling the number of ContentLinksâ„¢ per page. Kontera recommends five ContentLinksâ„¢ per page. Details are provided in the ContentLinkâ„¢ implementation instructions. Details on how to control the number of ads was not in my package. I believe you actually have to e-mail support to get it changed. I counted upto 16 ads on a page. That is excessive in my mind, but I thought it might only be during the two week break-in period. Will ContentLinkâ„¢ affect existing hyperlinks within a web page? NO. ContentLinkâ„¢ will NOT be served on hyperlinked content. In my experience, unfortunately that is not true. I noticed on a few links to my home page the first word of the title had the font increased and converted into a Kontera ad. I wasn't pleased about that one. I also have had words in my H1 & H2 headers turned into ads. Not pleased about that. I think it looks terrible. Ad targeting? For the most part I thought it started off pretty good. I have seen some run of the network ads that I thought were not particularly targeted. One had "privacy" find it at xyz.com. Hmmm.... My experience with AdSense is these type of ads pay very poorly. Unfortunately, with Kontera's reporting limitations, you never know how much a specific click is worth. My inclination is to wait until after the two week break-in period is over, then I am going to start making some changes. Banning any remaining poorly targeted ads is going to be number 1 on my list. Getting the number of ads on the page down to a reasonable number will be second. I have made one change to the ads from the very start, link color. The code I received specified the links as "blue". I don't like 0000FF blue. The links on my pages are 0000CC blue. I make the Kontera links 0000AA blue. I think it makes them a little more subtle. I noticed the code they provide from inside my Kontera account specifies "orange". Boy, that would be pretty! I also did not place Kontera ads on every page. I frankly don't think it is appropriate for my site. I only place the code on article/information content pages. My home page and directory pages are excluded along with some content page where I think the ads will significantly distract from the content. All that being said, I am very anxious to see how Kontera performs on my site. From what I have seen so far, I think it shows a lot of promise. My Adsense income has been spiking for the past several days. If it drops off, I am not sure if I will be able to sort out if it is from the Kontera ads or not.
If you dont like the ads in your h1 tags, simply use: <span name=KonaFilter><h#>blah</h#></span> Code (markup): and anything inside that will not be kontera'd
I appreciate your suggestion. I noticed that in the implementation manual. My point was that an H1 header is no place for an Kontera ad. So, I should not have to insert code to keep that from happening. In this case, apparently I do. For my website, I think the KonaBody DIV tag will work better. <div class=KonaBody> content text </div> Code (markup): I wasn't really counting on having to do that just yet. Sigh... I guess I have some work to do.
yeah im still just testing it as well, hopefully i will find a way to monetize without losing adsense revenue
I joined IntelliTXT instead and I've had some great success with them. I definitely recommend them. Also a high standard of 500,000+ impressions per month (on a per site basis, not overall)
I added the class=KonaBody to the DIV tags on my content. It was pretty easy to implement and the pages look much better.
What niche is that site in? WHen you add that particular class tag does it mean Kontera ads will show up only on the content in that tag and nowhere else on the page?
Yes. Only the DIVs with class=KonaBody will display ads. You can add class=KonaBody to multiple DIVs. I think it is a lot easier to specify where you do want the ads rather than all the places you don't.
Interesting! I never thought about that. Is that to keep the Kontera ads away from your top Adsense adblock? Or to give a better initial impression to your visitors?
After doing some research i came to the conclusion that since i added kontera on my main, newssite again it did affect my Adsense earnings. CTR stayed the same, but ecpm dropped. i added it on feb 24th and since that time my earnings dropped. I dont know if its due to Kontera, i wouldnt understand how the implementation of kontera effects the cost per click of adsense though.. I will remove kontera for a few days now and see if something changes again.
