My son wants his own account on DP. What is the protocol for a second account?

That's fine, I don't think anything is wrong with that.

Contact either Shawn or one of the mods (Smyrl, Rubeina, Sarahk et al). They'll make a note that the IP address will be used by two accounts. Job done. As long as you don't try and bump each other's posts or bid on each other's sales there isn't an issue.

CountryBoy is right. Be sure to send one of us a PM so we can make a note in both accounts to avoid future problems. I do not know age of your son but you might want to give him a few pointers regarding bumps, hijacks etc but knowing how tech save our youth are he might should be holding your hand. ;)

Thanks for the replies. He's 16 and has had own account in a few other areas, so he should be just fine. It's probably more an issue of us learning the rules, than my son learning the rules!

When he signs up we will simply reply to this thread, or something like that.

Bans are for individuals, not IPs.

That's a good reason to behave in this forum! :D BTW, don't abuse things like iTrader and Reps as that will get the both of you banned.

How does one abuse iTrader and Reps? I've been asking for both after completing a business transaction. Is that acceptable?

Yeah, that's fine. Although some people get angry when you ask for rep.

Abuse would be if you and your son exchanged i-traders.

Well, that's certainly not going to happen, as I intend to be upfront about having the second account. :)

In general, it's best to stay out of eachothers' threads. That totally avoids all possible issues.

You can have 2 accounts as well.

    To do's
    1. Contact a staff member with your both accounts username so that they can link both accounts

    Dont's
    1. No abuses of any kind(like iTrader, rep etc.)
    2. DO NOT post on each other's threads/bump threads/posts.

    Now its OK...
