Hi All I know there many variables, but after 8 months of getting 1 click every 2 days, the site I have CJ adverts on is not getting anywhere fast I know now that visitors totally ignore the banner adverts and i am trying out selling pages, yet, i still think traffic stream is the main issue
i totaly agree , do SEO! You can get more and more visitors doing seo and yes , even a website with "just" 100 uniques per day can have success without ppc.
Thing is, in my main affiliating niche, there are almost no directly related merchants , in the UK anyway, thus i guess this accounts for the fact that clicks on banners are scarce , Can I ask what kinda click thru rate tells you that your set up is working 0.5%, 1%, 2% ?
I don't think PPC is much related to your traffic. You will make good money if you pick good advertiser and having a good landing page.
Depends what you are selling (and what are the commission rates) and what you mean by succeed. Is success a site that returns a profit (after hosting costs, etc.. are deducted) even if it is a $1. Or do you plan to live off the site? I found it near impossible to make sites work with PPC that sell everyday items for 2%-4% commission (like amazon). I could sell stuff but clicks cost way to much for a couple of dollars in commision per item.
Without a doubt. I had a site that I just recently sold that was using the eBay editor kit only and I had less than 100 uniques/day and I made just over $400/month, solid.
KGL those are impressive results! I currently make quite a bit off CJ and it's all PPC-driven. I'd like to do more SEO but I always get the feeling that affiliate links hurt my search rankings. I've seen this happen to some pages (from 200 PVs a day to none in 2 weeks after adding a CJ link!) and heard it's happened to other people too. Any similar experiences to report? If you can still do effective SEO with affiliate links it's the best news I've heard all day...but I'd sure like to know how!
You wanna get your mind blown? PM me for the URL to the site in question that I sold. There is little to no content on the site, it is almost all editor kit. Dig that! While I never got picked up by Google when I owned it, I ranked really well in MSN and Yahoo! I actually ranked in the top 10 on Yahoo! for my top 4 keywords. I'm no expert when it comes to SEO, but I would suggest cloaking your aff links for better SEO. Use the HTML option in CJ, copy just the link and then use the cPanel redirect tool. Or you can use a link shortening script, I happen to have a script that is fantastic that very people (if any) use. I'll trade you the script for some PPC "coaching", I haven't even gone near PPC yet, but I want to, I see a lot of people making a whole lot of money with it. What really helped the site is that it was blogged about on the day I launched it by a blog that gets over 2 million hits a month. That got the ball rolling and after that I promoted it maybe 1 hour a month. It's a niche site and it is a tight niche at that, 0 competition. That pretty much sums it up.
Yes, it's possible to make money from CJ with 100 hits or less a day.. Now If I could get 10x that traffic I'd be a happy camper. -Jason
@ centime - what kinda products are you pushing? I have a few sites with barely any traffic, but the traffic I do get is almost 100% targetted, which results in a good purchase ratio (using ebay). Don't even bother with banners, they simply don't work.
The story is not only about how many uniques you have but how targeted traffic is. You could get even 30 000 hits, but if they're not related to your content, unfortunately you won't make any money.
