    Hey,

Whats the best way to do conversion tracking when promoting clickbank products?

Putting the tracking code on the "thank you" page is no problem as its my own product.

Ah, sounds like a case for Google & conversion tracking! Simply log into your Adwords account, and click on the "Conversion" tab. Doing this and placing the conversion tracking code on your page will allow you to determine just how exactly your adwords clicks are translating into sales.

cool.. this should be fairly accurate hey? Because my product is new and I will be the only advertiser with tracking code in place.

I have just noticed that when I am affiliate of a popular product its not as accurate. Google will show a sale, but clickbank wont.

Ah, that's where you need to distinguish between sale conversions & leads.

To do this, go to the Reports tab, then create a new report. In the Advanced Settings tab (#3), make sure both "Sales Count" and "Leads Count" are checked to ensure you get data on both of these. This should help you differentiate between the two.

    oh cool.

so can I use 2 different tracking codes from the same adwords account?

I am using aweber, and I would also like to track what keywords are leading to leads within aweber. I would like to add tracking code to my aweber thank you page.

    hope that makes sense

What I have done is used the TID tags.
    Setup your ad groups.
Each ad group has its own landing page which has it's own aweber form with ad tracking ID.

You can even take this a step further and use the {!adtracking} (can't remember it correctly but i think that's the code) code in your messages and can customize your messages as well as know where your sales came from exactly because you will be able to check for the TIDs in your CB stats.

Hope that's somewhat clear....I'm actually going to write a little guide sooner or later about this. Also check out http://www.andrechaperon.com/2006/12/testing-and-tracking/

    It's very detailed.

Also put tracking code on all your thank you pages to track conversions of subscribers.

ok what i am now doing is adding a different TID tag to each adgroup. Then each ad in the group is different.. because some ads may get a higher CTR but less leads generated.

    eg. www.myproduct.com?tid=keywordgroupname1 - ad1

    www.myproduct.com?tid=keywordgroupname2 - ad2

i can then see in aweber what keyword groups and ads are generating leads.

i think this is the easiest way to track leads..

although the reports generated from aweber are messy and dont convert into colums in excel i can still see whats working and what isnt.

I guess that'll work since it's your own product but when I'm promoting as an affiliate I don't even need to look at Aweber reports because you can see what's going on in Adwords.

Since each ad group has it's own landing page I can track sing ups to my list with Google's tracking and then from there I can track where the sales came from in CB reports.

On second look at your post though, I'm a little confused. TID tags will track where your sales came from but unless you have custom landing pages and different forms on each page I'm not sure how you can track leads

I can track leads becase in aweber i can see the url that they have used to get to my page..

example if i send to my page via: www.myproduct.com?tid=adgroup1ad1
it will show this url in my aweber reports. and i will know this person subscribed by searching for a keyword in adgroup1

If i am split testing ads I can also see what ad they clicked on. In the above case, ad1.

I see..but why not do a different form on each page with a different thank you page and google will track your conversions and you can compare adgroups and ads side by side :)

I am just sending all the traffic to my sales page. Not a seperate landing page per ad group. If this doesnt convert well enough for me then i may have to make a seperate landing page for each adgroup then it would be easier to track it your way.

i think i know what im talking about?? lol

Well if you only have 5-20 ad groups it shouldn't be too difficult. You don't need to modify them much just throw in the keywords from that ad group around change the title and some text. That way it's more targetted too and may increase your quality score :)

Yeah i see what you mean.. I may have to do that.
although I have over 40+ adgroups and so far have only exhausted 3 main keywords.. still have 4 to go

    eek
