opinions on my new websites please

Hi all!
I am new to website building and also new to this forum. I would like to have your opinion on two websites I have build. I made them to get experience in programming html and php and also css. As it would be nice to get the hosting costs back, I also put adsense blocks in.

Please have a look and don't be shy to tell me what you think.

Agreed, anyways site 1, I like the header image, however it is 'pixelated' around the letters, which spoils it slightly, overall its a clean functional layout.

 

I tried to move it but no joy. Thanks everyone for looking!

 

I like the Australia site, though I would probably change the header at the top of the page as the text looks a little pixelated.

The other site is a bit harsh on the eyes, could you try changing the background to something a little less bright? The text is quite awkward to read.

Thanks! I have changed the header (had to split up the text and the photo to get them both right, the text is better in gif and the photo in jpg). I have changed the chicklit4all.com as well. Thanks again!

hm.. I recommend changing the header of your Australia website. Give it a modern touch, web 2.0 style or something. But the layout of the content area is fine. Easy to navigate.

 

nice work. but i do agree with kubasoft, the australia header is a little sketchy. Web 2.0 style would go perfect with the rest of the layout

1. I think you should create a saperate page named "ABOUT US" and put the home page information over there.
2. Your site should have a "Site Map" which is crucial from search engine's point of view.
3. Your "Home Page" should have more Images regarding your subject.

1. Create more pages regarding your subject so as to keep your user hooked up for a long time and create good user experience

Thanks, Jonathan. I have a sitemap on the server, it is not visible on the site but it is visible for the search engines so that should be OK?
I am working on the other suggestions, e.g. more images and an about us page.

Anyone else?
