Every sport claims to be the fastest growing sport in America including professional bull riding, poker (???), ultimate bar room brawling, and any other activity that considers itself a sport. Based on my observations of late I would have to say La Crosse may have a legitimate claim. Besides a professional league seems to be catching on I am seeing kids carrying around la crosse sticks and I see 100's of kids practicing in a league not to0 far down the road. I also now see more than 20 high schools in the area are competing in leagues. La Crosse had its start in the north east and Canada so the fact that it's doing well in Orange County is pretty impressive. Can any other sport compare with this growth?
we saw a bunch of La Crossers in CO when we were there for vacation. big college sport in the east is it not?
I believe it's been big for years from Maryland north through New England and eastern Canada. Their are some current NHL players that own professional la crosse teams. I think a part of the sport's appeal is that it is close to other sports like hockey, soccer, and football and also appeals to those who are in combat (wrestling and marshal arts) and endurance sports.
Cricket has its following among the West Indian, Indian, Pakistani, South African, Austrlian communities living in AMerica.
I would think it would always have a small following, mainly commonwealth ex-pats. You reminded me that Badmiton is big in a few south east Asian communities here in California but I don't see either competing with baseball and tennis respectively.
I would go with paintball...especially here in the south...we don't even have rugby or cricket or that type of stuff...
Paintball is statistically the fastest growing sport for the past 5 years. I'm not sure how they poll that accurately though.
I use to love playing badminton at high school too. I remeber coming home after school then use to go back with a friend and use to play at the school gym for an hour or two once or twice a week.
I'd say it's basketball. Almost in every city that I've been in, I've seen tons of kids playing it, outside, on courts, whereever.
I didn't say it had all the sports, I said it had the beach, mountains, good atmosphere, temps, etc....besides, we would count cricket as a penalty, not an addition
Let's reset the question. The question is what is the fast growing sport not what is your favorit sport. I provided some evidenc for la crosse and I have never played it nor do I have kids playing it, I observe it's rise in popularity on TV, in the neighborhood and in schools. The suggestions of paintball, cricket, badminton, ping pong, and rugby probably all fall in the "Every sport claims to be the fastest growing sport in America". The paintball suggestion is kinda of humorous to me. In So Cal you have to trespass to play the game. Near my house a group shows up and parks and tresspasses into a valley where they have stolen road signs set up in their little play area. You can see it in this map, they trespass from left to right with the oval at the end of trail containing the signs. Give some reasons why the sport you mention is could legitimately be called the fastest growing sport in America.
Well that is the future No really no kidding the fastest growing sport in US is soccer. I heard also that by numbers of players it overtakes all other sports .... If you think it is not really that hard to believe since all you need is ball and 4 stones and you can play anywhere you want ...
