How do I profit from a webmaster directory?

    Hello,

I am currently in the research and development stages of a directory of directories (with a twist) and wanted to know how to profit from it. If I decide on paid submissions, how much to charge? Or if I decide on free submissons, what are other ways to generate revenue? Knowing this is a webmaster site, adsense etc... probably wont work well.

    Thanks

Basically from submissions or sitewide (homepage) link selling, I think all other options are not very effective.

You could probably do pretty well with very eye-catching adsense-ish links on your submit page. This is the page that will be viewed the most :)

Offer free listings as well as paid listings (with increased benefits). There are so many directories nowadays that you will really need to spend a lot of time promoting yours and proving why people should purchase a listing from you rather than the thousands of other directories. You should start out with a low price for "featured" listings until you've built your site up.

I don’t see “Indian” submitters clicking on adsense :), do you have proof that this works?
Also conversion rate will be very low for advertisers so you will get slaughtered in the ppc in time.

You "could probably" do pretty well with very eye-catching adsense-ish links.

Just giving some advice on what I think would or might work. I will tell you how well it does works when I implement it this week.

If you do decide to go with free reviewal, you would most likely get more traffic & submissions, meaning you could profit on sitewide text links or advertisements, and i'd really push on some affiliates such as TLA etc.
