Emailyou.co.uk is an established (Online Since: June 4th, 2005) free email account provider and other services portal.

Besides being a very good domain, Emailyou boasts over 9,000 Registered E-Mail Users / 3,151 visits mth (3 month average) / 9,042 page views mth (3 month average) / Approx 80% UK traffic

IMPORTANT STATS NOTE: the traffic stats are based only on the homepage and one or two inner pages. The actual numbers are higher but we have no way of proving this because we never went through all the pages to add tracking code. There's no common footer file or header so we didn't even change all AdSense banners either.

This one comes from our own (not included) installation of phpAdsNew through which we run the banners on the EmailYou homepage. CTR is as expected for banners (low).

We started off with AdSense instead of affiliate banners and this screenshot shows you the performance. CTR was actually higher than expected (and much better than banners). Please remember we only ever changed the homepage and one or two other pages to our pub-id. Because there's no CMS, there is no convenient way of doing this so you'll need a multi-file find-replace to boost your AdSense earnings. That way you will capture much more impressions.

We have a portfolio of websites and business at icomotion.com and do not have time or resources enough to allocate to the full development of this project on top of our existing commitments.

- Has a DATING SECTION also hosted for free by a third party. Currently 95 registered users and 2 upgraded profiles (in the last 12 months). (Can earn approx. £7-£40 per year per upgraded profile)
- Has a GAMES SECTION with approx 90 to choose from - SWF files, not too heavy on bandwidth.
- SEARCH SECTION of the site is powered by Google with a custom results page (earn with your AdSense pub-id).
- COMPARISON SHOPPING SECTION co-branded by PriceRunner can earn approx. 50p per click with all of the hosting handled by them. They also provide newsletters offering discounts which could boost revenue returns.
- The Free SMS SECTION has about 225 users. No income from this service as it stands, but they get to send free SMS and the message carries a small promo for emailyou!
- The WEB HOSTING SECTION allows users to create their own sites (again free and again hosted and updated for free by third party) but emailyou benefits from the advertising on the top of every website created. We disabled this hosting offer because of user abuse but you are free to enable it again.
- Extensive NEWS SECTION which is well used. The feeds are from Yahoo, BBC, Reuters and would be an excellent place to use PPC. There's great scope for development here (Digg, Yahoo Pipes, Yahoo Answers etc.)
- There is an INTERNET EXPLORER TOOLBAR for users to download and use. The 3rd party seems to have been bought out and the login doesn't work right now so no stats available on this.

Technical Details:

- It was custom built in html (no CMS) but uses PHP for some of the server side stuff like ad delivery.
- There is no CMS in the background but there is for all advertising. There is also banner rotation system in the backend which uses PHPadsNew http://phpadsnew.com/two/ . We use our external phpAdsNew so you will have to populate this again with your own affiliate banners/AdSense/Chitika/YPN etc.

- The mail server is hosted by: http://www.everyone.net/email_website.html , but as stated no fees for this service (basic option). For the users to continue to access their e-mail you will have to make some MX record changes along with the domain transfer, to point the mail records to the Everyone servers. Full MX instructions will be included.
- Everyone.net pays $10.00 US for every paid member you sign up and shares half of the 468x60 banner and promotional tagline space that your free ad-supported email users see. Every other month, Everyone.net will send you a cheque (if you are owed one) for at least $50.00 for signing up just 5 members in that time period. Meanwhile, you can oversee your email service via our easy-to-use web-based Control Center.
- Owner has full control over the users. You can email them all in one go if you want and send out promotional emails.

Once you find-replace all the AdSense Pub-IDs and/or convert this to a CMS (DreamWeaver can help you with this) this site runs itself nicely. With the e-mail promo feature this markets itself just like how Hotmail went viral in the early days. RSS news feeds obviously update themselves and all the external parties do their thing to keep the hosting, sms, dating and shopping running for you.

How many users you have for email subscription now?

 

Just over 9,400 accounts/addresses - the amount of uniques a bit less because some companies and individuals appear to have multiple e-mail addresses.

It's garbled to comply with the TOS. Last time I checked, we're not allowed to show all specific metrics.

As said in the spiel, it makes very little. The age/traffic/user/domain is what makes this valuable.

what work is involved for the up keep of this site?

 

We check the support e-mail account once a week to see if anyone has troubles with the e-mail system. It gets maybe one enquiry every forthnight, mostly user error/not reading FAQs etc. But considering they aren't paying, you're not obliged to.

Besides that, there's nothing to do but some promotion if you want growth. RSS news feeds update automatically. Just keep tweaking your AdSense/Banners for maximum monitization.

This has yet to be submitted to directories etc. And if you make a Squidoo Lens and write some article for submission, you can get much better rankings and traffic. It's surprising how many people sign up with emailyou instead of say GMail/Hotmail/Yahoo.

BTW you can buy (something like $25 I believe) a report from everyone.net which has demographical details about every user of the system so it could be good for marketing or for deciding how to develop the site further. I can't remember the exact break-downs but if a lot are techy, you can feature Digg headlines, ThinkGeek affiliate products etc. There's a lot that can be done if you have a day or two to clean it up and put it in a CMS.
