The sandbox only applies to very competitive keywords. "great offers" isn't even mildly competitive - wordtracker shows it gets 0 daily searches.

It is also common for new sites to have keywords rank well for a short period of time before falling out of the top 1000.

You should use the DP keyword suggestion tool to find keywords that have a chance in bringing you traffic. Targeting a keyword that no one searches should be easy to rank for, but traffic is what you want.

So According to you out of the millions and millions of searches a day google makes. No one searches "Great Offers" once? Heh.

    Pass me whatever you're smoking.

Although I detest the sandbox, I would rather it be there, than not. This is to stop the stupid spam stealing content sites who are only there to make a buck.

p.s. Wordtracker, or no other software is relaible, this has been proved on numerous occations.

First, you didn't understand what the sandbox is. It's a filter on highly competitive keywords for new sites. It doesn't mean you can't rank well, but it means your backlinks aren't factored in when google calculates SERPS. Backlinks show, they just aren't factored in. Ranking well for highly competitive keywords without backlinks is extremely difficult. Google's Matt Cutt's has also confirmed they have a system in place for certain keywords, although they don't call it the "sandbox".

Wordtracker is an average. Of course it doesn't mean no one will ever search for "great offers" .... but it clearly shows "great offers" isn't remotely competitive (which makes your sandbox point moot) and if you want to target a keyword with a zero, then go ahead.

Check your logs and report on how much traffic it brings you:)

I didnt think the sandbox effect kicked in until about 30 days after google picks it up.. then you're in the box for 1 - 4 months.

You need to check the competition for keywords in google trends. As mjewel is saying, your keyword is not a competitive keyword, so you could technically rank easily for this term. By the way, what is Organic traffic you are getting by being on 2nd page???

Sandbox is worse than crap. It can totally derail a project. Like the others said it isn't a very competitive keyword but good job either way. Use thos principals on harder ones and good luck.

It's the sandbox, not trap. I'll bet you the keyword you are ranking for isn't highly competitive - and highly competitive keywords are the only ones affected by the sandbox.

Why don`t you post here in 1 months time and tell where you are in the serps. Google love new sites for 1 month, then they go down. (very often anyway).

    ignorance is bliss

Almost once a week another noob comes in here says OMG my new sites ranks for "some obscure ass search term no on ever searches for", as soon as it was index therefore there is no sandbox

And every time someone asks them how many searches the term gets, and every time it is next to none

Although the sand box may exist, I think some people exaggerate it sometimes. I wouldn't consider myself a noob. I rank #5 for "Free Online Games" pulling alittle over 4K a day, I did not take long to start ranking for that keyword.

I have a small content site (forex related). Forex keywords are competitive, but I went after "long-tail" keywords, so mine weren't.

However, not until 4 months after I started it, did it start to get any real traffic from the SEs.

That "Google loves you for a month" didn't seem to apply to my site.

It is easy to be impressed by $4000 dollars.
note gecko and smashing in the search term are 3 yrs 8 month and 2yrs 7 months respectively.
This kinda supports the sandbox theory. Always a mistake to believe your own hype!
