Hi Guys, im certainly a member in need right now. I get the error 'A disk read error occured, Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart'

I found a solution here, but I need a Win XP CD which i did not get with my laptop, just XP came pre-installed. Does anyone know if i can download the repair feature from somewhere, burn it onto a CD and put it in my laptop

Any help is much appreciated, and please dont tell me to take it to a shop, thats my last option ;)

    Thanks guys:)

find someone with an XP CD, and you should be ok....you can't copy that CD though....however, you could also get someone to download a new version of windows for you from a torrent...although its not legal, it could at least get you back up and running so you can restore your legal copy....hope that helps.

When actually do you get that error ? I mean do you get that error when you start the Laptop and Blah "A disk read error occured, Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart" Pops up ? if so then I think you need to reformat the Lappy and then you might be done

What kind is your labtop? Mail the company that you bought it from and ask for another CD.

As soon as I turn on the latop I get the little vaio screen (make of the laptop is sony vaio) then a blinking cursor for about 5 seconds then the error

Sony Vaio, i guess thats an option but time is of the essence

I thought I had one for this desktop computer but cant seem to find it anywhere (pretty embarassing), yeah i dont fancy getting one from a torrent either, never know what you could get

Or try contacting the company maybe they will fix it

don't you hate that! nothing comes with CD's anymore

mine actually came with a good backup prog., one of the 1st things it did was ask for a DVD to create an emergency backup/restore

I would contact the MFG if possible, if it's Dell I think they charge you but they'll send you a CD.

huh, I'm surprised it didn't come with a recovery cd or something. mine's only an Acer!

like someone already mentioned if you have access to another CD via a friend or whatever that would be the fastest and least painful method to get you off and running.

    good luck though!

Doesn't Sony Vaio come with a backup drive for windows XP? That's bad if it doesn't :( Anyway, the best thing is ask your retailer or a Sony Service center to get it reinstalled or simply fix the problem...I think that's the only option left if its a MBR error;)

well, I have no idea how but I gave it one last restart and i started to see a bit of progress, signs of loading then blue screen errors like UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUMEthen it just started working on another restart, I ran the check-disk utility and looks like it had a bit of work to do

Im typing on the laptop right now

Going to backup all my files ;)

    Thanks for the help guys

Forget the CD's, try resetting your BIOS....when you see the VIOS Screen, hit delete or esc or F1 or whatever you need to to get into the bios...go to the last menu on the right, and select "Restore Factory settings"...save and exit...I have to do this about every 2 weeks with my laptop due to my stupid wireless mouse...
