Porn, Poker Gaming Links in Directories

    I am setting up a directory website. Is it very bad to have sections on porn, gambling, pokder etc? I have just checked dmoz and there are many links on the same topics. How would it effect my directory?

    If it is that bad, why dmoz, business.com and others show it?

    They will ruin your directory
    If you want an adult directory make a separate one for adult
    gambling etc are not recommended and may not comply with TOR for C/C Processors and payment gateways
    Just be careful when dealing with these subjects :)

    Thanks for your reply.

    I just want to confirm if there is a proper standing by someone from G on the same subject?

    No one should dictate on what you should have or not have on your website, unless it's an illegal contents. I think it's a matter of what the owner on what they want to include. Screw google and whatever else, that's my take on this topic.

    If you want to accept these sites, just be carefull. If your worried about what G will react like, just make sure you thoroughly check sites before you accept them. Google won't do anything if your linking to 'good' gambling sites, but if you start accepting sites in 'bad neighbourhoods' then you have a problem.

    In DMOZ the link URL is not visible to the Public. I'll tell you what Haxan. That Adult Site in DMOZ led to many dissapointments, resignations and removals of editors including me. Even the some Senior Editors are not in FAVOR.

    Question is if that is a legit site DMOZ should have shown it in the public side. It's a MONEY making site. That is all what it is.

    If you don't know how to review these kinds of sites better improve your NORMAL directories. Most of these sites are interconnected with affiliate and doorway pages. One thing they do is submit a legit and COPPA approved adult URL and some few months later there are some redirections and or the URL has changed.

    You wont be needing some of the crap sub categories such as gore, pedophiles, they are disgusting. I've seen most of them. DMOZ had and is having a problem with this internally.

    As I mentioned earlier, I am setting up a directory and I seriously thought of adding up all those categories but now I am in doubt

    Thanks for the explaination. I have to go with your experience because I simply don't have an ide about the legitimacy of these sites at all

    It seems you will have to face a number of issues like CC processors, payment gateways. Also, most of porn, gambling etc... sites are being highly promoted by spamming ways on guest books, boards etc... and linking to such sites may result as problems. You need to make more research before adding and accepting such categories and links :)

    Take a good look at the TOS of your chosen payment providers, and any third-party advertisers you intend to use, either from the start or at some time in the future. Paypal is pretty strict about the kinds of links you can accept payment for through them. Keeping your directory family-friendly means you have a much wider choice of payment methods, advertising, and affiliate options.

    My criteria for not adding a site:
    Site doesnt work/Site not done (Under construction sign only)
    Warez/Cracks/Illegal
    MFA/Spammy

    I will accept adult... but only in computers/internet/adult/ Actually, thats a good idea for a mod - a Must be 18 to enter this Category mod :)

    I think taking poker sites and adult sites is more than fine, make sure that the sites accepted are indexed by Google and other search engines, but you should do this with EVERY site in question IMO.

    There are quality adult and quality poker sites.

    If you linked to

    <porn sites>
    playboy. com/

    or

    suicidegirls .com/
    </porn sites>

    You really think that there would be a PROBLEM??:confused:

    I looked at adding an "Adult Entertainment" section to my directory ...

    Personally I could not stomach the porn sites ... it is just not something I want to review everyday for the next 5 years. :)

    The gambling sites are a little easier to manage if you only list sites that actually provide online betting. There are far too many affiliate sites that are little more than doorway pages, diguised as reviews, topsites, or directories. Just look for the affiliate code on every link. ;)

    I dont accept any betting, gambling, adult, medicine shops, related sites in any of my directories. Till now I have refunded more than $300 which is quite a good amount to me. :)
