I recently came across a forum that has been stealing our threads and posting like as if it was their own. So far I have spotted 20+ threads mostly made by myself. This is the site: http://www.geckostocktrader.com/ind...rd&Itemid=659289&func=showcat&catid=31&page=1 Is it possible to contact the server to shut down the site? How can I check this up? What actions should i take? Thanks
Oh man I would be signing up for that forum ASAP and posting that you will have them shut down if the posts arent removed immediately. Use a proxy to sign up if you can so they cant ban your ip address. I would also be contacting their host. Take screen shots of your posts on your forum and their forum so you have the evidence. If the timestamps are in thee that would help even though they could be manipulated.
Thank you. I have contacted their host. I have also taken snapshots and recorded a video of their website. Is there any other steps I would need to take? I simply can not tolerate copyright violations. I wish to close down their site asap. Thank you
Keep in mind this is their customer so they may ask the offender to remove the content first if they do anything at all. It could be some very small hosting company or it could be a friend of the site owners etc. Wait for a response but I think you have done all you can do for now although I would join their forum and post that they have stolen your content. Be aware though this may cause a huge war so only do this if you dont mind the war GL
The thing is they are extremely sneaky. They do not allow the public to post replies. It seems as if they are just a starting forum and they have multiple admin identities posting replies on their own threads. Unfortunately this would be my threads that they are commenting on... which pisses me off even further. I'll see what outcome this leads to. Thank you for the help mediology.
It seems like they panicked and flipped out after I sent them an email saying I was going to take appropiate measures. Now they have completely emptied their board and the thread count is zero. Serves them right.
Here is a good link for future reference if this happens to any of you: http://lorelle.wordpress.com/2006/04/10/what-do-you-do-when-someone-steals-your-content/
Thank you... one more thing that happened was he registered on my board and started saying how I do not own any posts on my board and it was perfectly legal to steal RSS contents. Obviously all my members bashed him and I sent him snapshots and a live recording of his website with all the stolen content. That ought to shut him up.
He is a moron. I highly suggest using his username and website name so that it is indexed in the search engines. Be sure and link it as well. His website name with "scammer" or "thief" next to it will work.
