Why can I no longer find my site with searches?

Discussion in 'Search Engine Optimization' started by David Priest, Mar 6, 2007.

I have been running my PR2 site since last June.
Since about last weekend, if I do a google search using suitable search words, I can no longer find my site  , it usually appears within the first few sites on the 1st page.
Has anyone any ideas as to what may have happened? And also what I need to do to put things right?

google spider bots read things differently all of the time. have you changed any optimization? if you made some changes to your content you could have lost placement. there are a lot of factors that would make you drop off of google.

Google performs data refresh regularly to determine the latest relevant content. Try to check out your sitemap account for more details and stats.

I put a clickbank product banner on my site and my site position on google dropped to about 500, before that was 12.

You are not alone. I have one of my sites coming and dissapearing frequently over the last 3 months from the SERPS even though the site is fully indexed.

One of site drop for 2 major keywords ranking No3. and No.4 before now gone for more than a month. And the same site rank No.1 for another keyword.

Dont know if it is plenty or some thing going on. Google definetly did a big update.

I've been trying to figure out my drop and after further review it occurred about a week after I added text-link-ads to my site. The site is over a year old, was well indexed, and ranked first page for my keywords. Not sure if the ad unit caused the drop or just a coincidence. I'm going on a month now and 75% reduction in traffic.

there is nothing to do with text-link-ads as i think my other 3 sites having text-link-ads and still at a firm position. no change.

I experienced a sitewide hit with aff. links on only one page (internal, and removing those ads would make my site completely worthless, so that's out of the question). Have you noticed an improvement since removing them?

I agree that the text-link-ads probably had nothing to do with it, just a coincidence in the timing. I've been adding a lot of unique content for the last 3 months so I'm guessing it's either buying links somehow or the google update itself. Another option is the affiliate I added from cj in December, but I doubt it.
