I am so glad I found this thread because I was about to register a bunch of domains under 1and1. Anybody have trouble or complaints about Moniker or GoDaddy? I have domains with both.
You c an't inderstand them because these major companies, including aol have been training people in india and then you can't understand a frickin thing they say!
Thanks for that. So does it work the other way around? Leave the domains at 1and1 and host the sites elsewhere? Just that 1and1 are a complete nightmare for moving domains! So many hosting companies offer reseller and other hosting solutions it seems near impossible to find one that appears to have a good hosting solution that provides value for money (not cheap but provides a good service for payment). Hosting seems to be the biggest con ever! The T's&C's all state that there is no guarantee of service! How the hell does that work? A bit like one of my clients selling a holiday, taking the money and then turning around and saying oh sorry you paid for the holiday but we arent going to give it to you! In the case of 1and1 that happens all the time!!!
Well, you could leave them with 1&1. I wouldn't recommend it, personally, but it's up to you. Well, they can't guarantee the service 100% since there could always be some unforeseen circumstance that could interrupt the service - if they guaranteed 100% they would be leaving themselves open to legal action.
So if I left the domains with 1&1 but hosted elsewhere would there still be perfomance issues? Arent they leaving themselves open to legal action anyway? 99.99% Guarantee yet I get no where near that. Monitoring reports show 99.1 at best most below 95% a number below 90%! Oh if only I had the money I would certainly give it a shot!
Perfomance issues? I guess it depends what you call performance issues. My biggest bugbear as far as leaving domains with 1and1 goes would be if they froze your account and every domain in it due to 'non-payment' or some other nonsense. That's how they used to work. Should you wish to cancel it had to be done in writing by snail mail! If you didn't jump through every ridiculous hoop and over every absurd obstacle you would end up with a letter from a debt collection agency and your entire account frozen over a domain you thought you had cancelled.
Hi, I just read your rants regarding 1 & 1 internet services. I’m trying to prepare myself for possibly having similar problems . I’m working on having a backup plan, but in order for that plan to work I still need to be able to forward my domain if they shut me down for using too much load. When they shut you down, did you still have the ability to log-in to your control panel and forward your domains ? Or did they shut that off also ? I'm fully paid up with them so that's not an issue. Thanks, any help is appreciated. Best, Mike
When I got shut out, I got completely shut out - couldn't do a thing. With any of the domains in my portfolio.
I used 1 and 1 for about a year and a half before I knew better basically: Crap customer service, Crap products, Crap technical service, But they are very good at taking your money!
Strangely enough I've had a reasonable good 1&1 experience, well at least from a cancellation point of view. I had a Professional package, which I no longer wanted, setup the cancellation online, confirmed it online. At that point I said where I wanted the domains to point, so I pointed them back to 123-Reg. All nice and easy. Pity it went a bit down hill from there, I got my credit note but it didnt say when I would be refunded. 3 weeks later nothing called them up and had the usual 1&1 support experience of a long call wait, strangely enough the refund was being processed that very day Saying that a month from cancellation to refund isnt that bad, and had they had put that on the credit note when it was going to be refunded. I would never go back though, over priced for what they provided. Jen
true, but I Think your problem was for "non payment" which then would be good reason to get "completely" shut out. I would hope if I'm up to date on payment, they will still allow me to re-direct my domains to take the load off their servers....
Perhaps. But I can tell you that in common with many 1&1 ex-customers, the 'non-payment' was for domains I had tried to allow to expire.
I don't plan on letting any of my domains expire, so hopefully I can still redirect or better yet, maybe get a warning first ?? Getting a warning may be wishfull thinking IF they at least warn me first I would happily switch over to one of their higher packages...
I've got a few packages with 1and1, before hearing all the horror stories... I'm pretty scared about ending the package with them, when I do. Would probably be easiest closing my bank account
What he said. Account frozen. But I kind of saw it coming and transferred away the domain I wanted to keep, ahead of time. (In their defense, the transfer went flawlessly.) The thing is, you don't quite know the domains aren't properly expired & done with until 'D-Day'... and then you find your credit card getting charged.
i use them and i feel that their web-based email thing sucks they also raised prices from $2.99 to $3.99 by the way i got convinced by their ad on entrepreneur mag
