Rankings could change in just a blink of an eye. That happened to me before, i was shocked to see my 3 year old domain rank #1 in google, and then disappeared totally from the SERP after 2 days.

    SEO expert - snicker - snicker.... ok let's try the logical path;

So I'd have to say no. In the end though, I personally wouldn't have the constitution to actually refer to myself as one, even though I have worked on a multitude of sites in a variety of markets.

    I prefer ' Professional ' -

The 'expert' or 'guru' or whatever tags, really don't mean squat... so who cares? Are you profiting from your SEO abilities? GREAT!! Then job well done!

That's the best answer EVER! I hate it when my boss refers to me as a "guru".

    Here's to Logic, friend!

The real question is how much money have you made? A SEO expert by definition is someone who can make a living of optimizing sites to gain traffic. When you can make a living from it -- you're the expert.

Right on buddy. Some folks look at the title but others can discern something deeper than that. Like I said, if people want to call you whatever, let them do so. Going after any title is like self-promotion. If you really are an SEO-expert or whatever, people will eventually know it. No need to proclaim anything.

SEO expert for me is someone who always update knowledge in SEO tactics and brings success to the site that he/she optimize. It's really hard to define expert in SEO because everyone has different style of optimization.

Congratulations on how far you've come.

But yes, what really counts is how many people are searching for those keyword terms.

No, being a self proclaimed 'expert' or guru' makes people sound like an ass.

    You can not be called
    expert if you do not
    share or teach others
    of how you doing it.
    It does not matter how
    many sites you have
    being optimized..
An expert is the one who
    has the ability to share
the secrets of what he learned.

An Expert is someone who has mastered their trade above most others in the field.

More importantly though for me is the WHY!

Why do you feel the need to refer to yourself as an expert?

If you were really an expert you wouldn’t have posted that question in the first place in the thread starter because I guess experts are quite confident about their capability and know exactly what they are doing.
Once you start reaching all your targets successfully in the field of SEO then may be you could call yourself an expert and that will be the day when you’ll not bother of asking others about it. ATB :)

Call yourself whatever the hell you want. Read Winning Through Intimidation by Robert Ringer. And don't look back. I'm an SEO noob, yet I probably make more per month doing SEO than most SEO "experts".
