I want to start a bit of a debate here. A free for all on what is the best way to make money online! Feel free to defend or sprout about your favorite money making suggestions - I do adsense, Global Domains International, and Affiliate marketing. What is your bread and butter? Why do you like?
Whichever way works best for you. What works for one, may or may not work for the other. I make money through offering inexpensive advertising. Others may make money through selling e-products, and more may make money from commissions. There is nothing to debate just simply, what you have tried and what has worked.

Yes I would agree what ever works for you. Test change, test and change again until you get it perfect. Also don't put all your eggs in one basket. Have different niches with each one have numerous sites so if one program doesn't pull its weight the other will that day.
at this point in time, I would have to say creating a niche-specific site that would appeal to a certain audience, but like GSellars and John Guanzon said, its basically whatever works for you. Experiment with what you find to work best.

Affiliate marketing can be very profitable if done right. 'Affiliate Master's Course' by Ken Evoy was a very helpful tool to me when I was just starting out. It's free if anybody's interested. He does a lot of promotion for his own program (Site Build It) in it, but it's still full of good information for newbies. The $7 report idea has also worked pretty well. The link is in my sig.
As Colm said: Good Planning > Hard Work > Experience are a must and then you can make money with any channel such as > Adsense > Affiliate Marketing > Consulting > Direct Sales and many more innovative things. Just gotta dig deep in your area.
I currently living off google adsense, but i have sites that use revenue pilot. I would imagine that it will be better if you sell a service or an intagenable product e.g. downloadable software. Since there will be a better stream of income for you if you do the marketing right for your site and product. But otherwise Google/revenue is doing good for me.
