Do you feel it is time to start cracking down on these NON-directory related
expired domain names that are snatched up, for solicitation purposes every single day just trying to QBC things?

Do you see any benefit in them?

I am very dumb technically --so don't know how to do it. But YES--it will be much better for everybody and most importantly clients if they can be stopped.

During last 10 days there have been 3 PR6 directories offering links with no PR value on inner-pages:mad: which makes it clear WHAT they are doing.

Please anOn --you do something about these craps:)

    Nope absolutely not..

i dont see no benefits in them ... they are just gold diggers who are trying to snatch it to make some quick bucks and hope that they sell it for some bucks and get it over with ... and i think submission to these directories are wasteless and waste of money .. because the PR of homepage goes down and the pages with 0 mayb gain a lil but than y dont u just pay a strong pr 3 site ?

right .... i just think its pointless to have these expired domains be a directory ...

It's something that we would be hard pressed to try and do as far as that goes, but I'm referring to these 'directories' that are popping up boasting a high PR, with nothing on the inside.

Generally no, so I usually don't submit. Most of them are just looking for a quick buck and advertise as a "Quality" or "Premium" directory and do little if any promotion.

Looking at the domain name is enough of an indication to me and there are a few members with a history of doing so. I tend to steer clear of the crappy offers, regardless of how low they claim their monthly fee for inclusion is.

They are just trying to keep it alive until the next project comes up or until they resell the domain, so i'm skeptacle with those type, kinda tempting at the same though:p

My opinion is probably better to let the market work, there are examples of directories build on dropped domains that have a honest business attitude like SquidLink.

Well there isn't much a of a difference between a dropped domain directory and a directory that has been around for a while.

    Yes you are right

My Jeffbrown Web Directory was started on a PR5 domain

Now it is PR4 and has PR2 inner pages after the last PR update(I bought some links)

What is wrong in buying a old PR domain nad promoting a directory

But I would not like to sell my directory!

Squid Link (without the S) not Squid Links :)

Squid Link is a dropped domain that was PR6 with PR0 internals and now after the update is PR5 home with PR4 Internals, the owner build a loot of links to keep the PR.

So there are some honest people with dropped domains, just warn people and let the market take is course.

I stand correct as I typed in the right search on DP, but wound up in the wrong thread. (i have 4 dp windows open atm). I did check on squidlink.com which was re-registered back in sept of 06 i believe, however and most importantly, look at the name with regards to what we are talking about. SquidLINK as opposed to integralcom.com

Do you see any correlation between the two and where and what they are?

While squidLINK gives me the indication that is it going to at least be related compared to the ladder.

    edit:
Just want to add in a little more; Lets take redpines.org for example. It was a domain that was re-registered, and then sold a few months later. It already had a PR4 and you took the bait and bought it.

Do you follow what I'm getting at?
It's more of a bait and snatch technique rather than a real directory owner having plans to make something of it. He registered it, threw a custom template on it, and probably sold it for 5x what was paid, thus profiting from you falling for the hook.

(well not unless you planned on making redpines a nature directory, which is what the site was generally suppose to be(nature related) prior to it getting re-registered.)

I have noticed a few of these in the last few weeks too. If the domain is a weird unrelated name I stay away from them.

I think the best way to stop these threads is just to post in the thread and point out that it is an expired domain.

What someone should make, is a web-service that our dirs can hit to see if the web directory is an expired domain.

I didn’t bought the domain for the PR, I liked the skin and even the name, offcourse I would prefer a “.com”. I like it because it breaks the usual naming conventions of directories.

The price in my opinion was quiet fair I see people asking 3x the price I paid for PR4 cookie cutter directories (and selling it LOL).

links should be on related category. paid links are ok as long as the directory is good.

Unless the directory owner knows what they are doing and how to keep the exisiting backlinks - chances are the domain will take a major PR hit.

Another thing that I'm starting to see some of is directories purging or losing all of their listings and starting over again. I really hate paying to be listed twice - I don't care if it is a new owner.
