windows xp works perfactly for me and i dont have that much hardware which vista demands so i will stick to xp.
i will wait before i buy vista. i heard it has better security so i will go with that , IE is a big pain all virus and trojans easily enter the computer from IE
I have already bought 2 copies of Vista Home Premium and it is far better than XP. I have no probs with it and all my hardware and software works fine. In Australia it's around AU$400 for Home Premium and the OEM 64bit version is around AU$170. To save a few bucks I just bought a cheap AU$59 80GB hard drive with it so I could get the OEM version. Saved me over $300!
I also use Ubuntu and I don't think it's a pain to install (and update) programs. In fact, think it is much easier that with Windows. How did you install programs? Do you know apt/Synaptic and how to enable additional repositories?
I'll be sticking with XP for now.....waiting for the dust to settle on Vista not that I'd expect there to be too many real problems but you never know.
Hmm...for those who want to try vista and uninstall it later on a dual boot system, I just wrote a little guide for it : Uninstall vista on dual boot systems
Happy with XP.. plus you can't develop with Visual Studio 2003 under Vista and I have a lot of legacy apps I'm not going to upgrade just for the sake of it. Microsofts answer was to use a Virtual Machine running XP to develop.... Hmmmm

Sounds so nice! Congrats. And I would very much appreciate some feed on how Vista's doing...I'm fine with my XP, but getting feedback is no harm
I was going to... but after seeing it on my friends computer, i decided not to, even though the graphics are awesome
I plan on getting Vista at some point, just not right now. The last thing I want is to get it, and for it to not be compatible with any of my hardware.
