Ok, I'm working hard on finding right keywords for my website.

    I have several concerns.
    1) what if I use some of the keywords marginally related to my website?
    2) what if some keywords aren't related at all
    3) what if I don't use general keywords but rather target specific ones, like instead of putting student community -> student community for undergraduates its a general example but you get the idea.
    4) I noticed that some general keywords have less traffic than specific ones, how come? 'student community' has <10 hits
    5) What is an optimal number of keywords per page?
    6) Should I use different keywords for my Forum / Arcade / university matchmaker ?

that's pretty much it, I guess :) I'm learning all this stuff, so why invent a bicycle when u can ask some enlightened folks here :)

    1) what if I use some of the keywords marginally related to my website?

-- That is fine - make sure your site is organized into proper folders.

    2) what if some keywords aren't related at all

    -- I wouldn't - keep your theme relevant.

    3) what if I don't use general keywords but rather target specific ones, like instead of putting student community -> student community for undergraduates its a general example but you get the idea.

    That is a good idea.

    4) I noticed that some general keywords have less traffic than specific ones, how come? 'student community' has <10 hits

    The way the market works?

    5) What is an optimal number of keywords per page?

I would suggest no more than 4.

Stealing keywords from competition? No one can steal a keyword - everyone tries to rank for the same thing.

thx! that was quick :) and I get some idea... what about order? is it important which keyword is first? or SE don't consider that as an issue?

by stealling I mean, suppose there is a website with simillar content, I take their keywords and put into my website. All of them and maybe some personal additions to the list.

is that so? on the competition website, which ranks #1 for my keywords has around 100 keywords!

what is maximum acceptable #? for which I won't get banned or something from SEs

I'm not sure how you're thinking about keywords sandrodz, but any word/phrase on your page is a potential keyphrase. You don't 'steal' keywords from anyone, you just make your page more relevant to whatever keyphrase you are interested in.

You aren't talking about the keywords meta tag are you, because that won't give you much of a rankings boost?

You have to create your own content don't steal from others. Use inventory.overture.com to search for the right keyword to target.
