Google introducing several click-fraud prevention methods Humphrey Cheung March 1, 2007 15:55 Mountain View (CA) - In an effort to block fraudulent and invalid clicks on Google Ad links, Google will be adding several prevention methods. Starting this month, the search engine giant will allow advertisers to filter out suspicious IP addresses from seeing ads. The company will also create a web-based resource center that will educate people on click fraud. In the 2nd quarter, Google will release a standardized interface for reporting fraudulent clicks. Click fraud is when a person intentionally clicks on a Google advertisement to either drive up commissions. But click fraud isn't the only source of invalid clicks because some users mistakenly double-click on ads. Web crawlers, programs that scour websites for images and links, can also trip up Google ads. Google ads often appear along the borders of popular websites and companies are paid a few cents for each click. Hiring people to click on ads could result in thousands of extra dollars in revenue for a website, but conversely also give huge losses to advertisers. Google will allow advertisers to blacklist IP addresses that they deem to be suspicious. Surfers coming from those addresses will not even see the ad, which will prevent them from clicking on the link. Google sends out a monthly invoice to both advertisers and websites. Later this month, those invoices will include money that Google did not bill because of invalid or fraudulent clicks. In short, what's coming: New click-fraud prevention methods. It could be good or bad. Google will email us the report of invalid clicks. We can block certain IPs from seeing the ads.
up till now i still find that... particularly humorous by preventing our foes from giving us invalid clicks, we compensate them by removing ads from their browser. i find that highly contradictory
Instead of just offering the prevention method to AdWords user, Google should offer us such prevention too to AdSense users. I believe AdSense users are more afraid of fraud clicks than AdWords users, at least AdWords usersare just losing some money - but AdSense users will get their account banned, forever.
Believe me, I lose more then "some money" to fraudulent clicks on my Adwords campaigns. And in all fairness, AdSense users aren't loosing money, they either gain more or less (or nothing for that matter).
Click fraud makes legit advertisers earn less. If there's any improvement to the existing method, I'll welcome it. I really like to see doomsday for all fraudsters.
Great news. Anyone think that, GooGle shall banned the multiple clicked IP for any of GooGle services- AdSense, AdWords and others. But in case they are public IP, so can not banned.
The news says it will be in the near future (2Q 2007 or later this March). P.S. People are getting lazy around here.
I hope this fixes the problem of the wrong people gets banned. But I don't think that this problem is ever going to get fixed. Google will always ban the wrong people.
Well since so many people are complaining about click fraud it is only normal that Google responds with a few preventative measures. The important question is, will we get less clicks because of this? I don’t think so. Only big sites might loose a few bucks, smaller sites I don’t think so.
The more they do prevent click fraud the greater the creadibilty of adword/adsense program, so it will be great news for genuine publishers.
