A question about PR - suppose I have a PR 8 backlink

Suppose I have a PR 8 backlink right now, this backlink's PR dropped to PR 7 on next PR update, how google calculate PR juice to my website on next PR update? PR 8 or PR 7?

Hope I explain well, thank you very much!

Since pr is update daily (just not in tool bar) I would say that if the site dropped from 8 to 7 then you would only get credit for a pr 7 link.

Hard to say as it could have dropped from from a real PR of 8.99999 to 7.000001 in which case it would drop you considerably, on the other hand it could have dropped from 8.00001 to 7.99999 and barely affect you. The more links on the page the more diluted your effects will be.

    Basically, it's hard to say.

it affects you directly, but dont get too hung up on it, move ahead. like roman mentions, it depends on how close it was to 9 when it was 8 and how far away from 8, it is now.

I think PR update is not daily(Its updated every 3 months) but backlink updates is going on daily

but we can't see it as Google stores these backlinks somewhere!

As far as the question is concerned your PR will be surely downgraded!

It depends on the number of links on that particular page also.

Page rank in fact updated daily or all the time.

"I’ll do a follow-up. Supplemental Challenged said: “The fact that Google can only create a PR update that is a full quarter behind the times is awfully troubling.”

I believe that I’ve said before that PageRank is computed continuously; there are machines that take inputs to the PageRank algorithm at Google and compute the resulting PageRanks. So at any given time, a url in Google’s system has up-to-date PageRank as a result of running the computation with the inputs to the algorithm. From time-to-time, that internal PageRank value is exported so that it’s visible to Google Toolbar users (see the question below for more details on the timing)." (quoted by http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/more-info-on-pagerank/ )

So the page rank we see is not live page rank but only a snap shot from the last computation. Hope that helps.

I think number of quality backlinks has effect on pagerank and the content of the site.

Content has nothing to do with page rank. Quality/Relevance has a lot to do with Rankings.

i think google will calculate with pr 7 for next update . google will use the last page rank while it's calculating the page rank

If Google indexes that website before it indexes yours, your only going to get credit for a pr 7 backlink.
