My friend has tried to re-boot several times to try and get to safe mode or anything to get to the system restore screen. He has no luck, any suggestions for this?

That is what I suggested to him, but he has a lot of pictures of his family along with other things. Nice suggestion, but does any one have any other advice for him?

Before anything, have him do a backup of the data he wants to save, just in case something does go wonky with anything that he tries...

Have him restart the computer...during the reboot process have him hit F8, if just hitting F8 doesn't work, have him do Shift+F8. I believe E-machines have it set to a very small time window where there F8 key will work...so just have him push the key continuously from the time that the boot process starts...The F8 key will bring him to the advanced menu options, he can then select Safe Mode from there...

If that doesn't work, if he has the disk for the operating system, he can put the disk into the drive, then when it loads, have him click on repair. Doing a repair from the disk won't cause him to loose any information...

Hope this helps, pm me if I can be of any more help.
