Specifically, I want to improve it for my forum www.moneytalkpro.com. It's currently a PR2 site. How can I get it to improve and be more in the PR5-8 range?
The more backlinks from high PR websites you have, the higher pagerank your site will have. Build up your incoming links. Also it is better to have backlinks from sites that are similar to your industry.
Get the link from 'any' decent PR page, it will surely pass raw PR to your domain. Relevancy has nothing to do with PR, Its something related to search engine result pages. In the Link Sales forum you can find decent PR deals, prefer buying cheap and permanent links if you are just looking for PageRank. People are offering permanent blog posts for some bucks, grab them. Try using your targeted anchor text for links, it will help you to rank well as well. May be it can be 'hyip forum' or something.( I don't know what kind of forum you run.)
Google PR takes sometime before updating so you would probably find your pagerank has jumped after the next update. Although not accurate but you could use Pagerank Prediction websites such as: http://www.pagerankprediction.com/ Make sure all your backlinks are Hardlinks and prefer sites which have a higher PR than you and relevant to your website. It also helps if their website is not already cluttered with links.
it is frowned upon by Google to "buy" links. but yes.. You'll need Way more then 50.. I have a site with about 80,000 and its a pr5.. I'll need about another 100,000 to get a pr6 or even a 7..
Get a couple of good links from high PR pages and your PR will go up even with few links. But that's only if there are not many links on those pages. When you link out you also lose PR. It's all a balancing act. PR is only updated about ever 3 or 4 months at the moment so it will take time to show. You'll have to wait and see what your PR is.
hi! i think aside from having a lot of backlinks, the contents of your site is also very important. Granted you have lots of backlinks, but the site contents isnt relevant or doesnt make sense t all...its no use.

PageRank just depends on the inbound links to your site, the higher their PR and the more related they are to your site - the higher your PR will be! Just make sure their in bound links are 'do-follow' or else even if they are PR10 it wouldn't matter
