Aw geez - you think anybody's going to take this long quiz? I'll answer your OPT:

    No.

I take it as a factual and true book as far as it is translated correctly. It is not the ultimate - in other words final or complete - word of God, however. There are others.

You may want to look at these again, they are all in the Bible, they are all just contradictions.

Yes. I agree in not taking the quiz either. Too long. I, on the other hand, take the Bible as factual and the only word of God. As it says in the Bible itself that the Bible is "inspired of God:. Then this completeness of the 66 books is just that, complete. If we believe the Bible is inspired of God and God being perfect, then he would have arranged for other writing to be included by now if something was missing. We can see that the collection of the 66 "little books" have been so for a very long time and most things written in it as far as history and prophecy is concerned has already happened. Any other writings that contradict these 66 books therefore, is not inspired of God. Hence, not included.

Well, how about getting these verses into the correct context. How do we do that? Read some of the verses before and after if necessary. Here's how this ends up:

    John 1:29-34:
29 The next day he beheld Jesus coming toward him, and he said: “See, the Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world! 30 This is the one about whom I said, Behind me there comes a man who has advanced in front of me, because he existed before me. 31 Even I did not know him, but the reason why I came baptizing in water was that he might be made manifest to Israel.” 32 John also bore witness, saying: “I viewed the spirit coming down as a dove out of heaven, and it remained upon him. 33 Even I did not know him, but the very One who sent me to baptize in water said to me, ‘Whoever it is upon whom you see the spirit coming down and remaining, this is the one that baptizes in holy spirit.’ 34 And I have seen [it], and I have borne witness that this one is the Son of God.”

    Matthew 11:1-13:

Now when Jesus had finished giving instructions to his twelve disciples, he set out from there to teach and preach in their cities.

2 But John, having heard in jail about the works of the Christ, sent by means of his own disciples 3 and said to him: “Are you the Coming One, or are we to expect a different one?” 4 In reply Jesus said to them: “Go YOUR way and report to John what YOU are hearing and seeing: 5 The blind are seeing again, and the lame are walking about, the lepers are being cleansed and the deaf are hearing, and the dead are being raised up, and the poor are having the good news declared to them; 6 and happy is he that finds no cause for stumbling in me.”

    7 While these were on their way, Jesus started to say to the crowds respecting John: “What did YOU go out into the wilderness to behold? A reed being tossed by a wind? 8 What, then, did YOU go out to see? A man dressed in soft garments? Why, those wearing soft garments are in the houses of kings. 9 Really, then, why did YOU go out? To see a prophet? Yes, I tell YOU, and far more than a prophet. 10 This is he concerning whom it is written, ‘Look! I myself am sending forth my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way ahead of you!’ 11 Truly I say to YOU people, Among those born of women there has not been raised up a greater than John the Baptist; but a person that is a lesser one in the kingdom of the heavens is greater than he is. 12 But from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of the heavens is the goal toward which men press, and those pressing forward are seizing it. 13 For all, the Prophets and the Law, prophesied until John;

What do you think after reading a bit more about this?

I didn't come to this thread to argue over Bible 'contradictions'... IF TRANSLATED CORRECTLY, it is correct. We have the corrected New Testament and (I'm pretty sure) most of the new Old Testament in our King James' version of the Bible w/ JST.

Col (Cheap SEO Services): Just because it's not one of the original "66 books" doesn't mean it can't come from God. What, you think revelation is dead? That that is all which was written? What would you say if I told you there was a perfect book (translated to perfection) that accompanies the Bible and also is the Word of God? It's not "included" in the Bible, but it's actually more accurate and more direct: it was written for us.

Akula: Nobody cares about the stupid quiz... stop trying to get us to answer these.

The KJ version is incorrect in the way whoever controls what remains in that version, has taken God's name out. You know an earlier KJ version had God's name in over 6,000 places. A look at the Emphatic Diaglott proves that it should remain. Meaning the scriptures have been tampered with. Fair enough, the translations we have, need to be accurate and over time it has been altered slightly to be as accurate as it possibly can. But to remove God's name 6,000 times and replace it with Lord does not go in harmony in Matthew 6:9 and Rev 22:18-19.

Going by what Jesus says and also the Book of Revelation about the conclusion of this system of things we can see for certain we are so close to the end of this system of things. Most of the prophecies have already been fulfilled. There are few left to be fulfilled. How there could possibly be another book at this point in time that is inspired of God just does not make any sense at all.

    Col :)

You missed entirely the fact that I said WITH JST (Joseph Smith Translation)... he went back and fixed the errors of man throughout the centuries in his time before he was martyred.

Revelation talks about the conclusion of the world, not of ongoing revelation. I await for you to tell me why it does not make sense that there could be another - or other - book(s) that are inspired by God and include the Word of God, and also why it is so hard to conceive revelation as undead. God hasn't abandoned us... left us with only the flawed Bible... for us to perish for the second coming. No... he gives us guidance still today and tells us what we need to do. There ARE ancient and modern books alike written by prophets of God which include the Word of God for us today. Unfortunately, people insist the Bible is all they'll ever want or need :(

Ah... it happens. Get used to it...

Joseph Smith Translation? Is this the golden tablets one?? My point still stands about KJ version though (and you did mention that version).

You say "not of ongoing revelation". Really? I would like to get your opinion what Rev 20:11-15 is alluding to then, about the new scrolls?

The Bible is certainly not flawed. With careful study you can see there are no flaws. Of course, if you have an accurate translation that is. Only by use of the Emphatic Diaglott can you actually see how accurate a translation you have.

Also, it's not just the Bible is what you need to survive. It's what you do with the information from it. Try reading Rom 2:13 and 2 Tim 3:16-17 and James 2:24 to name a few.

    Akula,

One problem with your question is that the Bible is two collections, each of several different books, compilations of letters, poetry and hymns etc.

I think the decisions about what went in and out were right, and were guided by God, but there are borderline cases - which is why there are minor differences between Catholic and protestant Bibles, for example.

Individual books are different. For example, in my opinion:

The Gospel of St John is an eyewitness account - if it is not, then it must have been faked by the most amazing, ahead of their time, literary genius.
The epistles are accurate original documents.
The account of the creation of the world in Genesis is a metaphor that shows us the relationship between us and God. This is the consensus mainstream Christian opinion - it was the opinion of St Augustine 1600 years ago, and is that of the major churches today.
The psalms are beautiful hymns, and like any thing beautiful inspired by God. Because they are deeply embedded in the tradition, and because of the stature of the authors, they matter more than other Christian poetry.

Another question that is relevant is: belief on God leads to faith. Both belief and faith lead to a desire for knowledge of God. Now there are other sources - the tradition of the church, the experiences of mystics and (most importantly) personal (and community) experience of God. However, none of the fill quite the same role as the Bible. For those of us who believe that Jesus was God, whatever flaws you point out, there is nothing that can substitute for it.

    Thanks Col,

I actually came to the forums to ask some questions on link building, but there is so much info already here that I am still reading the existing threads on the subject.
