You are now in unknown terrain, the work begins now that you have launched the directory, it will get a lot bumpier along the way too, you will need to hang on like you as if you are on a roller coaster 'white knuckle ride' its 365/24/7 from now on

Phew all I can say is you need luck and lots of it

give a free service that's very useful, and the people will come. Pay for quality backlinks and do whatever you can to get a big PR, and the people will submit :) Even though PR is just a number... it's one of the only factors we have to guage the quality of your site. If you get DMOZ'd, you're golden ;)

I would start by offering all members of DP a free listing. This would help you populate your directory with alot of quality links. I will not pay to have a featured link in a directory with no links.
    Just my thoughts:)

so.. a free script (php ld with copyright removed (very sad)), a default category dump from the internet, all directories have the same structure, a free template without any modification (you could at least have modified the contact page, not mentioning the sponsored links on left), and you make a paid directory. If I were david duval I would sue you for removing the powered by link. I

start wondering if someone is selling some ebook that sais "Directories - Get rich quick" because suddenly hundreads of directories appear with nothing.

You might want to weigh up the effort of checking those $1 regular links against submissions and decide if it's money well earnt. Might be better to make them free and focus on the featured links.

But as the others have said, it's a general directory, no niche, nothing special, you haven't even added authority sites! Lets start by adding dp to sharengain.com/computers_and_internet/discussion_forums/webmaster/

I think Directory provides important backlinks not from the Search Engine point of view suppose you have a listed in site in a directory

according to me you would get atleast 1 visitor from it for a month

suppose if you get listed in a lifetime permanent link in Alive or Aviva I bet you would get atleast 50 visitors from it every month!

So Directory back links are always important(Directories are always important)

I totally agree with you. I was just saying that you can't just put together some free stuff and come up with a paid directory . Aviva and Alive made large investments in their directories. So did I.
