right - I don't see it happening anytime soon, but MS certainly have a hell of a big war chest of cash!

I think if live could give better search results it could happen in under a year.

Then again that is a big IF and they seem to be more worried about everything about live other then the crappy search results it provides.l

Live won't beat Google for the time being, but they'd really need a major revamp if they are aimin for that. Yahoo and AOL are good competitors too.

Its got an Alexa of 7, if that is of any significance ;)

i actually think that it will be a matter of time that live search overtakes google. it may be a big hurdle for now, but i think microsoft will manage to overcome it sooner or later.

The way I see it, unless MS culture changes for the better, they will never beat Google. As I see it, Google's secret sauce is it's unique working culture. ;-) Always copied, but never the original, Google stands out :)

Frankly speaking, I prefer Google but with history of Microsoft challenging various markets at will (IE vs. Netscape, PS vs Xbox, etc), I just can't help that MSN will win in 5-10 years time.

I will never use another search engine than google, for the search results it's the best. With the correct keywords you will find in the first results page what you were searching for.. But with MSN and Yahoo things are a bit different for me..
