You register them in the same way as a normal domain

Go to your registrar, check if they are available and register them. Most of the good ones will be taken

Well if your domains are like purplevalley.com (something not many people will probably go after) than go and register it just like you would any other domain.

It becomes available just like any other domain.

The problem is if you are trying to buy something like 555.com or soccer.com something that a lot of people will try to register.

If that is the case read this:

    http://www.mikeindustries.com/blog/archive/2005/03/how-to-snatch-an-expiring-domain

It gives good advice on what to do. Again this is only for really good - good domains that are expiring.

If your list contains good domain names, you may have to compete with others in trying to acquire the names. You should use a back-ordering service like pool or snap.
It's going to be very difficult, if you try to register it manually.

I would recommend snapnames and pool, they catch most of the drop these days.

Premium domains don't expire anymore, companies like the above have special agreements with registrars so when a domain "expires" it is sent to these companies and then auctioned off.

If the domain isn't premium, it will be grabbed by a domain-tasting company which will look for traffic during 4 days, if it has no traffic it will be dropped.
