To establishing an authoritive site, you need to do other SEO besides creating a good link profile. Money helps for sure. But going for up to PR6 is not too difficult. In my case, I could spend enough time to get PR5 for free :D. I never invested a penny before it reached to PR5. But before I worry about PR, I would check on my position at SERPs to see how stable and Google recognizes mine to be more authoritive than others with the keywords I've been promoting. This is the best way to keep PR and raising PR. You can increase link popularity while dropping rank at SERPs. So, it's not really all about how much you can invest $ on your directory for PR but how the ROI reflects to ranking at SERPs. Or so I think... :D

If I can spend 2k, I can have a PR7 site, which probably will be my ultimate goal. I would want to take time to grow it though rather than acheiving it in 3 months. That's my way of SEO anyway. ;)

I'd love to spend 10K on links for a directory but I don't have that cash, and if I did, it would go to my forum ;)

but I can spend about 300 on a new directory and make my money back later that year.

I m going to be a new "fish" in this directory world...
And for the start, i am not looking to spend more than $200...

I know this will probably wouldn’t do any good at all, but until I see something working, I don’t wanna through big money. More importantly, I don’t have $10k to spend...

For me, my webolink directory is just one hobby. I have spend more than 200$ for script, host and few links. I will spend some bucks on design (some css tricks) and no more time.

Lol -- Make me you partner when you finally decide;)

Well I think --Money is not enough to buy permanent PR6+. If I am not wrong --lots of things depend including the age of the domain.

    I just can't put-up a directory today--and spend $10K --and get PR6 in 15 days.

I think along with money lots of thinking, time and strategies are required- not to forget hard work.

My budget for 3 sites are 600$. I am aimimng PR5 for one directory and my BLOG-- then hopefully PR6 for another directory. But its realy dificcult. I am submitting to 500 free directories myself-which is killing all my time-.
At the end I'll be happy if I get PR1 less for all my 3 sites.:D
