I have been shopping for either a VPS or a plain ole' dedicated box and all I seem to find (with the VPS's in particular) is the companies only offer Plesk. Why? What is so great about Plesk? Is the license cheaper? Why does it seem like cPanel is the minority? I understand a cPanel license isn't cheap, but for a company like LayeredTech (whom I currently have a dedicated with) a cPanel license shouldn't be a big deal considering the amount of customers they have and the prices they charge. Seriously, come on, $25, $30, even $40/month just so I can be comfortable in a enviroment (cPanel) where I know my way around? Where is the justification?
Actually we use cPanel and i'm sure alot of companies do. Plesk is not my "choice" panel but it is nice in some ways. Your budet seems extremely reasonable to me to for what you need. But take a look around the forum for some offers.
Not sure how you've been looking around, but try Googling "Cpanel VPS" and you might find a solution. Just attaching a few links here found through Google - I am NOT an expert, don't know how good these are..... http://www.powervps.com/cpanel-vps.php https://www.rapidvps.com/?page=services http://www.spry.com/cpanel-vps/ http://hostony.com/vpscpanel.html Best wishes
Also found these threads on webhostingtalk forums - so if you're looking for something at layeredtech, you should be able to find it..... http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=582661 in page 2 of the thread, he confirms that the server is at layeredtech http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?p=4337864 I don't think layeredtech themselves have a VPS offer (didn't see it on their website) but I'm pretty sure some of their resellers would.
I appreciate you guys gathering all of that info. I have, in fact, Googled cPanel VPS and I have been through the VPS and Dedicated forums at Webhostingtalk twice. Just when I find a place that seems like it would be perfect, it's not. My budget is not, $25,$30 or even $40, thats just what some companies charge for cPanel and thats monthly on top of the charge for the actual server. Anyway, I ended up at LayeredTech on a Layer 2 dedicated box and eventually i'll just end up buying my own Dell server and have Managemybox look after it.
After recently purchasing several new servers myself, I was plagued with this exact problem as well. 2 years ago all you could find was cPanel and no one was charging extra, it was PART of the price, then again, those were also the days when you could get a whole C class of IPs at no extra cost either. I run many servers and most have cPanel because that is what my customers like. I prefer DA myself and on my own private dedicated box, I just use raw commands and editing via shell for most of my needs, but as you stated, everywhere you go now they are charging for cPanel. It's like McDonalds charging for those ketchup packs or tiny packs of salt... (yeah, I know, in some areas they do, but I am just saying)
Plesk and cPanel are the best suggestive and compatible with the hosting account. It uses easier interface when compared to other control panels. Advantages are relatively higher in all situations.
ServInt uses cPanel. I just signed up with them and i have to say they are awesome. Coming from a BlueHost.com shared plan to a ServInt vps is a fantastic experience. BlueHost sucks btw...
