Links Submitted 2 Wrong Categories?

    Hi fellow directory owners,

when it comes to reviewing sites, do you accept or reject sites that are submitted into wrong categories?

up till now i have been lenient with submissions, and have moved them to correct category, however this is becoming a bit much as 7/10 sites are submitted to the wrong category.

I think i will start auto-rejecting site submitted to the wrong category, but give the exception to links that are submitted into a similar (but wrong) category

e.g. a site that sell furniture submitted to
    home > home > improvement
    instead of
    home > shopping > home

    what are your views?

if they are paid, i will move them accordingly.

if they are free and of quality i will move them

if they are just free with no quality i will delete.

I place them in correct categories ...

I know how I want to shape my directory, and spent a considerable amount of time defining the categories ... so why should everyone else be an expert?

To be honest, after years of designing sites, only now do I really understand the term "wrong category". :)

I usually move them to the correct category, or make a new category if necessary. If it's a free submission of a borderline site, or the category is way out, I may delete.

by wrong category i mean completly wrong like a sports site being submitted into the buisness category etc.

if its submitted into sports i will normally (depending on current mood) move to its appropiate sub-category.

I believe a good directory wouldn't be rejecting websites submitted to wrong categories since we consider(supposedly) quality of sites not submission skills of its webmaster. To me; good title and description are more important, i just move to right category if that's what's all wrong. Treating paid or free submissions differently about this is not directory style, it is.. dunno link sales website style, they should open a dollarlinking clone maybe.

what can i say robbs got the idea......

As i myself was being Mr nice guy and moving them
Now depending on how busy i am i will still move them
But if i catch someone who submitted say 4-5 sites
and they targeted my main catagories with out buying
the featured links as thats the only way they got those
choice spots then they can consider themselves deleted.

    thx

Not everyone is an editor, and the best person to know your category structure is you. If you are a paid directory you should move accordingly. If it's free submission then you can just reject although you might be missing some quality websites by doing that.

All ours are paid and we try to ensure that they are categorized correctly although we find that most paid submissions are selected correctly by the submitter :)

Not always but most of the time

Its not the idea of them being an editors or not but them purposely targeting catagories so that they can be closer to the domain as rules clearly stat that FEATURED links recieve TOP catagory selection.

    But what can i say.....
If i were them and had nothing to lose then chances are that i would take the chance also but id target the rookies and not seasoned vets

    thx

It depends on my mood. I'll usually take the time to move them if it appears an effort has been made. But if it's just been put in one of the top categories, with no thought given to finding the right place for it at all, then it goes.
